I agree... Marmite sandwiches are not worth any cost.
You say it's disheartening. What you mean is "disillusioning". Welcome to reality.
My MA which I didn't start until I was 28, required two years of full-time overseas teaching just to apply for the course. Those years can be useful experience to take into your Master's. I wouldn't be too keen to hand over your money to an institution whose entry requirements were so lenient they didn't want you to have something professionally substantial to bring to the course.
I'd head to Japan, China or Korea. That's where, with a BA plus CELTA and no real experience, you can still make decent money and have a decent lifestyle and save. Plus you can actually teach in institutions that care about teaching and can improve you professionally. In Saudi, you can forget that at entry level. It's likely to be more of a disadvantage to you. |

| Why don't you do a PGCE instead of a masters? Then you can become a qualified teacher and earn around 27K entry. That's extortionate 12000Euros for a masters! Universities really are big business. |

A PGCE is meant to be (from anecdotal evidence of friends and online) incredibly hard to complete, and then you have to teach in a school in a deprived area, also marked as 'Requires improvement' or 'Inadequate', to gain QTS. |

| I did a PGCE in 1996 and it was easy! You just had to make sure you had lesson plans for each lesson taught. That was a bit of hassle burning the midnight oil but I got through it ok. The college lectures were easy to get through as well. Just did a few essays for them! I didn't have to complete my NQT year as you were qualified at the time as soon as you completed the course. I don't see why you have to do your NQT year at a deprived school. You could teach at any school. I taught at some London schools so I know what you mean! The OP would do far better than wasting his money on a masters. |

The days of big money in KSA are coming to an end. Some might say they ended a while back. Salaries stagnated for years. There was the phenomenon of the contractor, where some local is creaming off as much as the teacher. Salaries have for some time been falling.
I expect we will now see some posters desperate to tell us that they are still earning gazillions.
Most people will earn more teaching back home. And forget TESOL - go for "real" teaching ! |

| During the PGCE there are usually two placements - one at a good school and another in a deprived or inner city area. I think, for primary, they often have three placements.. |

Ooooh, Scot, you are bad! It was a very similar comment that sparked one of our most vituperative threads ever a few years back. I still remember the snarling and bared fangs! |
