I have a public school job in Hanoi that runs from September to May. I'd like to go somewhere for the summer where I can save some money.
I'm a U.S. citizen with a CELTA an online MA in applied linguistics, and a law degree.
Does anyone know of any countries that hire U.S citizens, pay well and will hire for the summer only? |

It's been discussed a few times on this forum. Do a search for "summer." That said, you don't state how much you think you'd earn, but your expectation of "making good money" for a few months is unrealistic given that you'll likely have to pay airfare and visa costs. |

I don't know of any place that has such a dearth of local English teachers (whether native or non-native speakers) that they'd need to pay 'well' to import them for a 2 or 3 month stint. |

The British Council are advertising right now for summer school two-month positions in Vietnam. |

China and Korea offer summer work (2 - 3 months) Or there are plenty of summer camps in the US, as you probably already know. With your MA you might be able to get pre-sessional work, which pays pretty well in the UK, but am not sure about the US... |

The Bc also run a summer school in Hong Kong at an hourly rate of 430 HK dollars. If you got 30 hours a week for a couple of months and found some cheap student accommodation you could make a tidy sum. |

That ad states there are no flight, housing, or settling in allowances. Plus, the OP, an American, will find the UK-specific qualifications and ability to "enhance students' understanding of contemporary UK" a stretch. |

Lots of Americans work at the BC in Hong Kong and a flight from Vietnam wouldn't exactly be prohibitive. What's your point, that it's financially not worth the bother? |

I simply pointed out details from the Hong Kong BC's last summer ad; the OP can decide if it's worth it to apply. However, he/she is interested in maximizing savings (target amount unknown) and may not want to fork out too many out-of-pocket expenses. |

I was a BC teacher, and no student ever asked me about the UK nor did I offer any information. Students did often tell me the BC was just another language school, which suited me fine as I was just a teacher as far as they were concerned.
In any case, as mentioned twice above, not all BC teachers are from the UK. Also, those who are from the UK probably haven't lived there for a decade.
The BC offers arty stuff to promote the UK as well as advice on studying there. This was all done by local staff and never anything to do with me. |

I never stated that they don't. |

You didn't, but you did imply the OP should just step aside and make way for John Bull and his authentic tales of Manchester United and Eastenders.
Anyway, you've so far helpfully advised the OP to avoid Hong Kong and the BC in general. Any suggestions how they should make some cash this summer? |

Not so. Just because something is a stretch (i.e., a challenge) doesn't mean it's to be avoided. Besides, I rarely tell posters not to apply to positions, and even then, I don't hint about it nor give wimpy reasons why they shouldn't.
Again, if the job hits the OP's travel interests and financial goals, then he/she can decide to apply.
