Is it possible to get 6 month contracts in SE ASIA mainly Vietnam, Taiwan, China and South Korea?
How hard or easy is it to acquire these?
Where can I find them?
Is it easy to find them on the ground in these countries while travelling particularly SE asia and Taiwan as I am aware you need to have a contract secured before you go to China or SK.
Thanks |

Why 6-month contracts? Generally, most employers expect teachers to commit for at least a year. Besides, getting proper visas for legal work would be a hassle if you intend to move from country to country. |

I am going travelling in SE asia in may for 6-7 months, I was then going to teach in Taiwan for a year but I have to be at a wedding in Florida in August 2017. I don't want to spend nearly 1000 pounds on a return flight from Tapei to Florida.
I therefore want to do a 6 month contract somewhere from December onward. Then fly one way to america, travel for a few months attend the wedding, fly back to UK before getting a full year contract in September and setting off again.
The reason I mention all those countries is not because I will be switching between them every six months. But because I don't mind which of those countries I am teaching in. I just want to know if there are 6 month contracts available for either country. |

The best way to find 6 month EFL teaching contracts throughout ASIA is to knock on employer doors..and hope someone answers them.....and gives you your job. BACKPACKING across ASIA is not cheap any more......better to secure a one teaching contract if you plan (or want) to save any money at all. |

Taiwan, China and Japan are all pretty much developed nations with fairly strict regulations.
Vietnam is just developing and the teaching industry is still quite loose. You can show up and just start working freelance, probably at several schools. If you can entertain a roomful of rowdy kids at 8 am Sat and Sun, you'll have plenty of hours. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh are the 2 main cities where there still seems to be plenty of work. Work is available in smaller nicer cities these days, but you might struggle some to get enough hours.
Anyway, if you're reliable and have an agreeable personality (flexible and patient) and dress neatly, you should be able to find some paid work somewhere some time after the Lunar New Year holiday. |
