You're f###ed!

As a previous poster said, it's worth always keeping a UK bank account, and remaining registered with your GP.

If you can't do that then get a couple of mobile phone contracts. That would be my approach.

Depends on who is making the requirements. Is it the Saudis who want it, or the employer?

In my case it wasn't a requirement from the Saudis, but the employer. I got a police check from Saudi Arabia before I left, but the company wouldn't accept it as it only covered three years and not seven.

Ask whoever wants it what will suffice.

I am fighting a case with regent visas who told me to get a basic dbs. When all the docs were in place, they found out that a 'full' dbs was needed and that i could 'upgrade by getting an acro'. Actually, as other agents seemed to know, the dbs, instituted in oct last year, had already been superseded by acro as early as nov, or at least well b4 xmas. (The delay meant i missed an already delayed start date, and finally lost the jan to june semester, paid hol, the flight, and have a big bill to pay for regent's 'services' plus a lad of others, inc medical @ 250++ quid and multiple attestations, grand total 840.
Regent visas thoght my case was 'unique', and they have done all they needed to do...like give misinformation! Bill now is 780. How kind!)

It seems to me that the Saudis are making a bit of a mess here: decent, qualified teachers will be put off by this and go elsewhere; the frauds, on the other hand, will always find a way to work there.

Qualified and experienced teachers who have taught in many countries will find it difficult to provide all the documents that are now required and may ultimately decide to go elsewhere.

A charlatan with a need for some quick cash, simply applies with fake credentials and no mention of his health issues and criminal record to a college of excellence, which is unable to provide an iqama, and hopes to get lucky - and probably will.

Where is the sense in this?

Tip
Keep an address in the UK. Stay registered with a GP.

I've just tried to ring the Saudi embassy in London, waited literally an hour, and still didn't get through.

Does anyone know how long the Saudi Embassy considers the ACRO police certificate valid for?

Hello everyone

The not having a UK address is a real pisser. I feel for anyone who is needing to get the check but finding the hows and whys of it not so easy. Had been back and forth via email with these acro guys years back, and still have their emails in a folder in my email account.

I do know a guy who got a disclosure scotland check for China, but it is not accepted everywhere, as people are stating in this thread and elsewhere. Seems the best and safest way is to have the ACRO check, alas.
