I am looking for reputable agancies to apply for jobs in Saudi, but it is proving harder to research than I thought. Can anybody help me by letting me know good experiences (or bad) you have had with agencies or educational institutes? I plan on applying direct to some universities, but also want to apply to agencies to see what they can offer.
I am a native speaker with TESOL degree and 5 years of experience (mainly with primary and secondary students), and would like to teach older students now. Under this heading, perhaps we could collect a database of employers and agencies for others to use too. |

Although there are some stinkers that employ teachers, it's not that simple to create a database of direct-hire employers and contracting companies because qualifications/requirements along with working conditions, benefits, etc., can greatly vary. In other words, there's no one-size-fits-all employment situation. Your best bet is to look at those positions you qualify for and then research/ask about the employer within this forum or on the Net in general.
That said, as I recall, you have a degree (BA? MA?) in TESOL from a university in Thailand and a TEFL cert (equal to CELTA?). Meeting the qualifications for a position in KSA will be a challenge; Saudi employers expect native speakers to have degrees from an English-speaking country. Therefore, it definitely makes sense for you to look at the job board for opportunities that match your background. But also apply to see if your degree will be accepted. In fact, consider getting your diploma and transcripts certified by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission in Thailand (if one exists) or Saudi Embassy there prior to applying for positions so that you can scan it and email it along with your CV and cover letter. Degree authentication is required for all expats for employment visa purposes anyway, so get it done and out of the way. |

The contractors are all a bunch of thieves but ultimately where they actually end up sending you will define your experience. Unfortunately, they never know where they will send you so it could be Riyadh one day and Najran the next.. People land and get taken to Arar sometimes..
Check out the Colleges of Excellence and employers like Laureate as well as EdEx, Al Hussan, ICEAT and so on. |

I do not think the Hiring Committee at KFUPM would approve an application from someone with a Thai degree. |

That was where I worked last. I consider it a benchmark. Good employer with 100+ English teachers. Unlike those jokers at Abdull Bin Dojji who treat employees badly and close down at the drop of a hat.
While I was employed by the said uni, I was careful about posting material that would identify me. Now that I am retired I am beholden to none and can be a bit freer in what I say
Maybe I should post about my experiences at Starfleet Academy and the many times I was abducted by aliens ? |

Thanks for this, the certification of my degree etc is an excellent idea.
I have been offered work by the American Academy already, and also been turned down by an agency who where employing for a vocational college system that wanted degrees from my home country. I have no idea if the AA job would have gone to full employment as I could not take it in the end, but I have my fingers crossed for work even if it is not in a university.
I will take your advice
Thanks |
