I have been approached by Al-Hekma International school, Bahrain. I see plenty of negative titles on teachers’ forums but reviews have been deleted. This looks fishy. Do you know anything about this school?

Al-Hekma is always in need for teacher so, they accept almost everyone, just apply. More than half of their teachers have no proper degrees and work under “administrative assistant” visas. There are mainly teachers who have very slim chances to find a job somewhere else; qualified ones don’t last long.
Don’t trust their promises during your skype interview. They never keep them. If after all comments on the internet you still consider teaching at Al-Hekma note that, they never write in contracts a number of classes per week you are supposed to teach. So, later on they are free to give you whatever they wish. A teacher’s contract says “48” working hours which means 6 working days.
To cut it short - If you want to see hell on earth then, come to work at Al-Hekma International school.
Al-Hekma school is owned by a rich lady called Dr. Mona. She also owns Gulf University, Bahrain. Most of my expat friends who worked for her, found her administration unacceptable: heavy schedules with a minimal pay. She has very few Europeans; most of her staff are Egyptian. Very few of her staff would complete their contracts; most of them would leave or run away before the end of the academic year.
By the way, they keep tracking and deleting all negative posts about Al-hekma!!!

Al-Hekma employs many Indians, Bengalies, and Sri Lankans as teachers. Their pay for native EFL teachers is very low....around $1,500/Month...and the benefits include very, very long working hours with basic unfurnished accomodation. The students usually come from wealthy and privileged Bahraini fanilies. Shocked

If memory serves, I was offered around $2200/month, plus benefits.

Shared accommodation though...not for me

The school has decreased salary offers to EFL native English speakers over the years...nowadays they recruit mostly non-native speakers from the sub-Indian continent to teach English. They earn around $500 - $800/Month + shared accomodation.....sometimes less!!! Shocked

A former colleague of mine who just resigned from teaching at this school told me that the biggest challenge he faced was dealing with the administration and not the students....he was told to keep his job he must teach at least 35 hours a week.....which working a 60 hour work week! He was British and his salary was only 600 Bahraini Dinars a month... Shocked

If you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about regarding anyone's qualifications - including mine - then button your ... and keep those unwanted comments to your selves. You are not contributing anything to this discussion. If I wanted to listen to ceaseless mockery and negativism, I would watch the media's coverage of the Primaries in the USA.

Enough already - grow up children you demean professional teachers Embarassed
