For those not aware of the literary allusions, the title consists of the opening words of a Scottish Republican song from the 1950s, written by Thurso Berwick (aka Morris Blythman) on the accession of Elizabeth to the throne.

The name Albion is of Greek, not English origin. Are there many Hellenophobes in Govan? Wink

A devout royalist? Not quite. In my youth I would have done what the French and Russians did with their Royals. I was also a fan of Willie Hamilton (?), an old Scottish MP who detested the monarchy. Now I look at our European neighbours and can´t make my mind up which is better, monarchy or republic. I certainly don´t envy any of the Royals and wouldn´t swap places with any of them.

Difficult to say but I think I would rather be a subject of QE2 or Felipe VI than a subject of King Salman of KSA or King whatever his name is who dictates in Bahrain. The Norwegians, Dutch and Belgians appear to have the ideal monarchies.

Of course, the monarchies of Norway and Netherlands make the Queen EII looks poor! Laughing
