|
|
After a year in China I want to go to Japan. I want to live in a city that is clean, interesting, not too crowded, not polluted, maybe by the sea or in the country, with foreigner friendly people and a good standard of living.
Where should I go, I met a Japanese guy in China a he told me the name of a city, in the south, which he said was the best city in Japan. I completely forgot the name 10 seconds later.
Is there a city like this in Japan? One that everyone says 'Ooh I wished I lived in .....'?
When I came to China I didn't put any thought into where I was going to be, and I didn't like it there at all. I want to avoid this again if I can.
One last thing, is there a city or region where golf doesn't cost the earth? Where you can get a game on a public course, even if the course isn't that great.
Thanks for info. |

Golf is expensive no matter where you go in Japan.
Try Sapporo up in Hokkaido. What kind of climate are you used to? |

Is there a general trend regarding the cost of living as you move South - North through Japan? |

Climate not so important, I have spent the last few years in Brazil and China, it would be nice to see some snow covered mountains.
Thanks for the suggestions here. |

Considering 75% of Japan is covered in mountains, that shouldn't be much of a problem no matter where you to.
How much snow can you tolerate? North of Tokyo it gets deep and lasts a long time. I live in Sapporo, and we get snow for 5 months, about 6 meters of it.
How about temperature? Hokkaido has -15 to -30C in winter. Summer is usually quite pleasant. This year is quite hot (low 30sC) in the last couple of weeks. |

So why isn't it the last city you'd live in? Are you posting this from jail? |

A little off-topic but I remember an Amnesty International article someone here linked to that discussed Japanese prison conditions. Wow. I can't imagine anyone overstaying their visa after reading it. |
