A taste of language teaching

It is unfortunately still quite common for people to be offered an English language teaching post simply because they are a native speaker or because they have an academic degree. To raise awareness of the demands of the profession and how best to prepare for a first teaching post, we’ve been working with FutureLearn – a social learning platform based in the UK owned by the Open University – to launch Exploring the World of English Language Teaching, a free ‘massive open online course’ which will give people a taste of what English language teaching is about.
The course will help raise awareness in four areas: what’s involved in English language teaching; the skills and knowledge required; the different training options to choose from; and the range of teaching opportunities available.
