This is a strictly hypothetical question.

If you were already doing your 40 hours at your education company Monday to Friday, and then the boss wanted to pile on about 10 more hours on the weekend, for a period of a couple of months, effectively meaning you would work 60 days without a day off. And not get paid extra for those weekend hours.

Would you:
a. laugh in his face, and tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine
b. supplicate and do it, to ensure contract renewal
c. diplomatically tell him "um no, it aint happening sunshine"

Is it worth stabbing the hand writing the recommendation/release/whateveritscalled letter to your next Chinese employer. You got a contract, be a professional and sleep in the bed you made or tell them it ain't happening if you can't handle it -or your boss is a ****-.

Absolutely C unless he can compensate you fairly.

I have yet to experience a Chinese employer actually doing me a favor or showing appreciation beyond a giving me a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant.

Or you could reply with something like, "I'm willing to help out and work extra hours over the weekend but I'd want to be compensated appropriately for my time."

That shows a willingness to cooperate and work hard but at the same time not be a pushover.

Obviously you would also want more information in addition to that before making a final decision, such as exact numbers of hours to be worked, lesson details etc etc.

Turns out I'll do two weekends, three hours a weekend, and have two days off in the week.

Fair enough.

The reason being is that it is a stupid idea in the first place. A stupid reaction is deserved. Stand up for yourself, but be fair about it. It is always about $$ here, so if they want you to do extra work they better give you more dough. Money is god in the muddle kingdom.
