I know this topic is done to death, and I don;t give a flying steaming pile of *you know what*, but I'm going over and even news that's about a month old might be too old.
It's December 1, how are things there now? |

What exactly do you want to know? Have you been to Ukraine in the past? Do you have a job lined up? |

You'll easily find a job- almost certainly not a legal one, though. Also, the exchange rate is not in your favor- roughly 25 gryvnias to USD/Euro, and even with a good job you probably won't be pulling in more than 25,000 gryvnias in a month. |

Can you survive on 25,000 a month? Is there a good dating scene between Ukrainian women and Westerners? |

You will have to beat them off with a stick.
As soon as you arrive at Borispyl, countless dyevs will be waiting for you at the airport, fainting, screaming as they hope to get a piece of another broke ass ESL journeyman teacher on €855 a month.
Man, you will slay it there. |

On a more serious note, you have to remember that questions like "Can you live on x amount" are too vague to get an answer. Most Ukrainians manage to raise families on less than 25,000 gryvnias a month- often on less than a third of that salary. However, 1) you probably don't have the family and friend support in Ukraine which makes living on that salary more realistic and 2) you probably don't wish to live like the majority of Ukrainians.
Whether 25,000 gryvnias is enough depends on YOUR lifestyle and YOUR needs, wants, desires, etc. From my viewpoint, the kind of apartment a childless Westerner would want to live in would cost between 5,000 and 7,000 gryvnias a month. Utilities are usually quite cheap, only 1,000 or so a month. As for food expenses, this also depends on you- if you eat all your meals at home, then your food bill for the month will be quite low- a few thousand gryvnias, at most.
As for the dating scene, it is how I assume most everywhere else is- some people are in happy relationships, some people are in unhappy relationships, some people are happily single, some people are unhappily single. I think non-white men and Jewish men might have some difficulties dating, due to local prejudices, but it certainly isn't impossible. |
