Do they? I certainly don't think much of lots of the riff-raff foreigners I see/have met in China and Taiwan. But then again, when I'm out and about, how does the general public know whether I'm the CEO of a MNC, or a 1st Grade ESL teacher. They don't. Silly statement

To quote one RACIST Chinese person: "There are so many foreigners here now, we are sick of the sight of them." And that was said five years ago.

As are people in Australia, NZ, America and Canada, where the Chinese have invaded, but carry on like they're still in China.

Thailand has visa free entry for Chinese and has been forced to issue friendly advice like:
Don't touch museum artifacts
Don't use public spaces as toilets
Do observe road rules.
NZ is about to open self service visa applications for Chinese. I wish visas were for non-drivers only.

It's only going to get worse. Much worse.

Wow. This thread started out as 'poor whitey in China' (yeah I'm whitey too- doesn't bother me) and has turned into 'those rude hick Chinese' invading Western lands, displaying the same intolerant attitude Chinese are firstly accused of having.

There's a saying that's old and trite but still holds water: When in Rome do as the Romans do. There's another by Gandhi: The world is big enough for all of us.

I guess this thread has seen both sides of the racist coin- the paranoid and then the resentful. If someone doesn't like it here, they're free to move back to their own version of Trumpville.

Trouble with that is my version of Trumpville is being overwhelmed by Chinese tourists who use their vehicles as weapons.

Please don't add words like "racist" to quotes. It misrepresents the person you are quoting. and the tone of the post. The person I quoted was no racist, I can assure you, just sharing an honest opinion about the influx of foreigners to Beijing.

And your argument is illogical. The fact of whether Chinese people can or cannot tell your profession from your appearance has no relationship to the the idea that there has been a general decline in the esteem of foreigners over the years. It certainly does not justify the "silly" reference. This discussion has been around and discussed widely, including on Chinese forums. For example, China Daily had had a few that I recall, going back some years. You seem to be arguing against a case I am not making. I am NOT stating China is hostile to foreigners. I am stating there is a significant relative decline in the way we are perceived, and that this will most likely continue. Why is that silly?

Please DO allow me to interpret what I read as I like. Without foreigners in China, China would still be on its knees.

Blue Tortilla: Location - Henan. Nuff said.

Lastly, let me add, before I walk away from this ever so dull thread: it goes both ways. With the Chinese travelling the world these days, the world gets to see how filthy, inconsiderate and arrogant they can be.

In all the countries I mentioned, and mine too, Chinese are are not well liked (due to their behaviour).

In Asia I've yet to meet an individual who likes Chinese tourists. And I've traveled Asia A LOT.

I don't doubt that these observations are legitimate, but most of the Chinese that I deal with and pass on the street are pretty decent people. I am sure that the less desirable types exist in larger numbers in the large cities (which I avoid), but the dirty and incredibly inconsiderate tend to be (in my experience) people from the very lowest socioeconomic stratum, people whom I rarely meet.

In my home city in the States, the Chinese (and the Koreans) tend to be quite urbane. There are few Chinese tourists, but there are many Chinese businessmen.

Problem is that tourism doesn't bring out the best in Chinese.
