I'm currently looking into teaching in Japan but many of the dispatch companies seem to have not so great reviews. I realize that my experience there will be influenced by many factors other than the company I choose but nonetheless, it's still an important part.
The companies I have been looking into are:
Altia Central
Joy Talk
RCS
Interac
Heart English School
Borderlink
A to Z (based in Nagano)
CAN English School (also in Nagano)
Altia seems like the best so far and I have an interview with them next month. I'm considering applying to Joy Talk and/or RCS, but I'm not sure. I've decided to steer clear of Interac, Heart and Borderlink.
Does anyone have any insights on these companies, especially Joy Talk and RCS?
Are there any companies I missed that are worth considering?
Here's a bit of information about myself:
I'm in my mid-twenties. I've taught ESL in South Korea for 1.5 years at an elementary school. I'm currently a piano teacher in my home country, Canada. I'm working on completing a TEFL certificate course and I have basic knowledge of the Japanese language. Also, I would prefer to work in a public school rather than an eikaiwa.
JET was my first choice, but I was cut after the interview stage.
I would greatly appreciate any advice! Thanks

| I realize that this question has been asked before, and I apologize for asking such a common question. But I'm having trouble finding recent information. I'm hoping to be in Japan by September and I'd like consider all my options. I've been researching for a few months and it's been a bit overwhelming. I was just hoping to get some pointers from anyone who knows more about this topic. |

I heard quite a few bad things about Heart, so I'll stay away from them. |

| Had some friends who worked for Altia with no complaints. I've been working for Interac myself for a looong time. No horror stories. Just remember even the "respectable" outfits are nothing more than temp agencies. They'll use every legal loophole to keep you part-time and disposable. |

Thanks for the tip. I'm assuming that trying to keep you part-time is to get out of paying insurance?
Does Interac take placement requests? |

Exactly. That's the name of the game.
As for placement requests. If you are applying from overseas, I doubt it. Beggars can't be choosers. Take what you can get, get your visa, and once you are in Japan and know the lay of the land, look for a job in your preferred area. I you have some connections with or experience in a certain region of Japan, make that part of your application and give them a reason to place you there. |

| When you apply for Interactive you can choose your preference of region, urban, suburban, or rural, and what grades you would like. It doesn't mean you'lly get any of them, though. |
