| The Vietnam visa websites state that on June 30th this year the free tourist visa (for 14 days, for UK citizens) is set to expire. Has anyone on the ground there heard/read whether this is certain, or whether there will be an extension? |

| I've heard a few people talking about this as well. I guess the UK is getting too chummy with China, so the Vietnamese aren't making things any easier for you all. Meanwhile, Obama visits Vietnam and Americans get 1 year tourist visas. |

Not really a problem for me. UK has been too eager to score brownie points with China though they have been opposing China in the South China Sea issue. So maybe that is the root of this.
More likely is it hasn't garnered a significant increase in UK tourists spending big money. Brit tourists are mean and don't want to spend their £s.
I guess they'd rather have the fees than give out free 14 day visas on landing. |

The change for Americans and the VN visas has been in the works for a while, due to reciprocity.
Obama's (then pending visit) and the lifting of the arms embargo and TTP may have expedited the final decision. |
Absolutely correct. It is important to remember that the TPP is signed but not ratified. If you are a US citizen, you should email your senator in support of ratification. Clinton has said that she is now against the TPP but she will be back on board if elected.
Of course, you should not be working on a tourist visa but we know how that is. |

| So, I guess people from the UK (and the other European countries currently allowed the free 14-day visa) will have to wait till July 1st to find out if there's an extension...? |

Interesting, where are your sources from the relevant department of tourism in Vietnam to back that up, or elsewhere? Generalizing much? On my connecting flight from HK thru Hanoi, almost all sat near me where retired Brit tourists, and I guess all had been spending money on food, hotels, beer, souvenirs etc etc.....I don't see how you can travel in another country, even on a package holiday, and NOT spend dollars/euros/pounds etc. |

Not good news 
From what I hear, there are 3 month business visas in country, how difficult/easy these are to get is anyones guess. Perhaps someone on the ground there can advise? |

What I want to know then is:
1) Do you just need to border hop to activate the 15-day exemption?
2) How many 15 day visa exemptions can you get back to back?
3) Does it interfere with you getting a proper visa/ applying for a work permit in any way? |
