I was wondering if anyone has personally worked at this location, or any other EFs, or if anyone knows of someone who has worked for EF. What's the overall experience like? I feel a stigma when people refer to training centers, as well EF specifically.
So what's the deal? Is it really so bad to work for EF? Some specifics would be extremely helpful. I do already know of the longer hours and weekend/evening work. I was wondering if the negativity goes beyond that.
Lastly, would you ever work for a training center such as EF Chengdu?
Thanks in advance! |

I worked at an EF in a SE Asian country. I had zero teaching experience so it was a good place to get started. At this time, I had not taken the CELTA so much of my "training" was by trial and error.
The quality of the EF school depends on the owners/operators. I think most of them are independently owned franchises. So, some owners have well run schools with proper teacher training, pay on time, supply adequate facilities and others are only in it for the money.
They pay is often quite low. There are books to follow for teaching which I found to be inappropriate for students from Asia. (Ie: historical references to Albert Einstein and Elvis Presley for lessons).
I stayed at this location for about two years. I took my CELTA early in my second year and realized I had not been teaching ... I had been talking. Once I had my CELTA, I was able to get a better, higher paying job.
So, if you have at least two years teaching experience, a Bachelors Degree and a CELTA, then you could do better than EF. If you don't have the above minimum qualifications, then get your CELTA first and then look for jobs.
Just my opinion. Good luck |
