I keep hearing untold BS
This Z visa process is a labyrinth
Nobody seems to know - even those who are supposed to know
I need to know
(a) I'm from the UK - do I need to go back to the UK to apply or can it be done through HK or a consulate in a third country (the job I've been offered is in Beijing)?
(b) degree authentication must be done in your home country?

(a) You most likely need to return home, or have an agent in the UK process the application. SAFEA in Beijing will issue a document called a work permit that allows you to apply for a Z visa. This document specifies where you need to apply. When you get this, you will have your answer.
(b) Of course. |

| You have been told different stories because it depends on the province and the employer. I, for example, was able to get my Z visa in Vietnam last year. However, you'll read plenty of stories on this website about those needing to return to their home country. |

I'm Australian, my wife is American. We are both presently in Australia. My wife is not an Australian resident, but rather is in the country on a tourist visa.
We were told by our soon to be employer in Zhejiang province that my wife could not apply for her Z visa in Australia and so needed to return to the US. This was due to her not being an Australian resident.
The consulate here in Australia DID process my wife's visa. Thank God we didn't listen to our employer.

BTW, my wife's invitation letter did specify a consulate in America, but the consulate in Australia clearly didn't give a sh#t.

Contact the appropriate Chinese consulate which would be the Chinese consulate in whichever city/ country you are in at present.
Shanghai Noon and Brunouno are telling you the way it is/might be depending upon where you have established overseas residency.
If you are exasperated at this point, just wait until you arrive in China. |
