I have just returned from the job fair in Hilton hotel in London, where contracts were being handed like hot cakes. I think everyone of the 70 odd people got an offer. I would like to know if someone with MA, Celta with over 3 years teaching experience is worth these days for KSU job?
I have seen people with BA and Celta had offers of 12,225 riyals per month with 3000 housing allowance and 1000 transport.
Lastly, I have been offered BA pay of 12,225 basic per month, but this was due to not having my Ma certificate but was advised once I have the certificate in hand they will up my pay. Can they do this or is just a runaround. I haven’t signed the contract just the offer letter.

Your MA is in...?

Recruiters have to go with whatever documents and academic qualification the job applicant provides at the time. Email them a scanned copy of your MA diploma immediately and request they consider it for a revised job offer.

My MA is in applied linguistics and ELT. This was the basic pay more-or-less that everyone was offered. I would think maybe after returning with my MA certificate the pay will go to around 14k basic maybe.

You have a related MA. Instead of focusing on for-profit companies, apply directly to universities. See The skinny on direct-hire university opportunities.

If you don't get a job offer for an MA qualification at this stage and postpone that till you are in KSA, you might end up with an HR employee telling you that the company doesn't need your MA now!

Do it now or you'll be under their mercy.

The offer letter is part and parcel of the contract, by the way.

Ah! Al Hussan recruiting more Muslim lads from London, Manchester, and Bradford to fulfill their contract at the 'prestigious' King Saud University.. (MOD edit)

yways, I hope most of the new recruits know that this will be the final year of Al Hussan's generous KSU contract. The way things are heading now, it is unlikely to be extended.

A relevant MA should bring your basic pay to c.14K SAR. It is always best to have this confirmed before you join. They can and do give people the run around later on.

Regards,

I would've hoped they would pay that much , but I think Saudi is running low on income recently for the education budget. They offered me 13k basic for MA. The gave the bachelor holder's 12,225 basic.

That's expected from for-profit, private businesses like Al Hussan and the other numerous contracting companies. This is why I suggested you look at direct-hire opportunities -- no middlemen involved.

For an MA direct hire at universities, you are expected to get SR 15000 basic salary.

1chunk - I'm not sure what you are implying with your reference to the religion of candidates?? I'm sure you're not hinting that they're inferior in any way to non-Muslim counterparts. Perhaps you've noted that many 'Muslim lads' do in fact want to teach in KSA for cultural reasons but why is this any different to other Celta-fresh lads jetting off to Asia for the primary aim of travelling?

I'm in a similar position to you Abu Dawood although I've not completed my MA just yet - they said they'd upgrade once I have graduated this December but I agree with the others in sorting it beforehand in your case.

Direct hire would be great but seems from the job postings its the wrong time of year for these positions.

I had 12,750 base offer plus same transport and housing by them for 10+ years of teaching experience, so I would say you got a good offer.

ps. I have moved on from KSU now and am going to where Johnslat used to work. Old dave's esl'ers would know where this is

end of transmission
