Hi there,
I am looking for good school/ language centre to start off my ESL career off, in Shanghai.
There are so many options, I just want a decent salary to live and travel on, medical insurance and Z visa covered with at least 10 days leave + public holidays.
Working for a good employer that supports new teachers, is more important to me.
Any such schools/centres anyone can recommend?
I have a 4 year degree, 150 hour TEFL certificate and am South African.

You need 2 years experience to work in Shanghai.
You don't have that
It's harder for Seth Efricans than British Americans Canadians and kangaroos. |

Thanks LarssonCrew, but there are so many job ads that specify 'no experience ' in Shanghai. Even on the China job board on this site...? |

I don't know if those would be "legitimate" offers.
I believe that Shanghai still requires two years experience. They have been liberalizing policies since 2015, unlike other jurisdictions. Yet I thought they only now waved the two year rule if a foreign applicant graduated from a Chinese University. Haha
Maybe someone on this board who has recently and legitimately obtained a work visa for Shanghai could answer this.
Overall, Shanghai seems to be the place to focus one's efforts to avoid a lot of the headaches now involved in obtaining the privilege to work in the PRC.
Good luck! |

There's a good possibility that they're genuine advertisements, but the schools will most likely register you in a different jurisdiction where the rules are more lax. I'm not saying you should do this, but this is how many here circumnavigate the rules. |

I agree with you in theory. It is a good point to raise.
However, Shanghai is generally now considered to be one of the easiest places to go through the process, so I am personally unsure where else they would it? |

Interesting, though not surprising. Sounds more like a case that the boonies may be a little corrupt than Shanghai.
From what I can find, the two years rule is alive and well in Shanghai. Therefore, it seems that the OP would be getting taken down the path of fraud.
I am sure the school had no idea who the Ghanians were when the officials came knocking. |
