|
|
Hello,
I am relocating to China and have a job lined up in the Schengen province that I'm pretty happy with-ESL teacher at a private centre. I have my TEFL certificate to teach English, however I'm also a native Russian speaker and have been volunteering at a childcare in Australia teaching Russian to little kids.
I realise this may not be the right place to ask this question, but has anyone come across any bilingual teachers? is there any market for Russian lessons? I just want to find out whether I can capitalise on my strength-being able to teach both languages, something that may set me apart from others.
Thank you for any ideas! |

If you're going anywhere near a foreign languages U they might be in need.
At least one Beijing U has a Russian language programme.
Can't remember the name, although the student I spoke to about it, remarked that it was sponsored by Moscow. |

Sichuan? Shenyang? (although not a province)
Location could make a difference in demand for Russian...or not.

I have a friend who teaches Russian in Xuzhou at a university. Does ok..
I have heard that there is demand for Russian teachers in terms of privates in the Northeast of China and the larger cities.
You could probably create your own demand by marketing Russian as a way to differentiate one's skill set from the crowd. The Chinese as you know have a hard time seeing this benefit by themselves.
You could also teach Russian online, or work for a Russian online school that offers English, but prefers that the teacher have Russian ability. |

OP, try Dongbei as there should be more demand in that region... |

OP mentions location of his/her main job and is not casting about over a wide territory.
It's privates basically but Russian not English. |

There aren't going to be many opportunities as a teacher. You would be better off honing your English teaching skills. However, there will be opportunities to work as a translator in big cities. |
