I am surprised by two things... I thought they only hire for Sept 1 and the visa wont be ready for that date is applying today.

They are now interviewing in London and Dubai. Thats a first!

Anyway, if you work there, 3 hrs of classes a day, 1 hr in the office... 24 weeks of the year but only 60 days out.

If KAU's recruiters are hitting Dubai, it might be because they hope to snag some of those UAE teachers who are about to lose their contracts due to the looming phase out of the government English foundation year programs.

Anyway, it's not unusual for direct-hire opportunities to open up mid year.

These guys regularly recruit. They are a mid-tier outfit, not exactly in Jeddah proper. The money and conditions are ok, and you can save. Abu Dhabi or Dubai is still a lot better, but of course you gotta find a decent job there first. And that's getting tougher to do. As to their specific recruiting agenda, one can take an educated guess as above, but it's hard to say for sure. Maybe they didn't get enough interest at TESOL Arabia - Or did they even go? Perhaps some applicants backed out? Enrollments went up? But definitely worth a look, especially if you don't mind being in that part of the world.

What is mid-tier? and the money is better than most.

The guys I met in Jeddah were headed to Qatar and the UAE, not the other way. Only the very dedicated brothers left the UAE for Jed.

Not anymore in terms of the Emirates. You apparently haven't been following the UAE forum. See Foundation year to be or not to be. Hiring at two of the three state universities is down to zilch; HCT is the hold out with lousy, shorter contracts and a lousier, toxic work environment.

Pay and benefits are decent. Conditions aren't bad either. But the location is not great. In other words, you could do better, but you could also do worse. So if you meet most of their requirements and don't mind living over there, you should have a pretty good chance of getting hired. It would be a way to gain experience in the ME without too much stress I suppose, but with the plan to transition to the UAE hopefully within a year or two.

Hello All,

Could someone who has worked at the KAU ELI tell me if it is located in downtown Jeddah, or far to the north of the city, like the UJ's ELI? Also, in addition to the 60 days summer holiday, do KAU ELI instructors get a mid-semester break and a spring break as the students do?

Many thanks in advance!
