Hi folks,

I am on a low simmer here in the Omani summer heat in what is my seventh year here in Oman. Left for a while, and returned to a job in the private sector - BIG mistake after working in the public sector for the Ministry of Education for 6 years. Would love the same pay, and working conditions I had previously, but it is impossible to switch jobs here in Oman now. Omanisation strides on. Times are getting tough, and I have recently witnessed two friends being given the push from Ministry jobs at very short notice, in a disgusting fashion.

Now looking into the possibility of searching for a job in the delightful Saudi Arabia, mainly for more favourable pay and working conditions, same as I enjoyed previously. However, I have one specific condition, which is I would need a job offer (preferably in higher education, for which I am both experienced and qualified), with guaranteed single accommodation on a compound. The reason for this is that once in receipt of full legal working status (iqama), it is possible to import a dog into KSA, if under the description of "guard dog". I would want my "guard dog" to live a happy life in a compound, where he and I could walk freely, without harassment.

If anyone cares to share, I would be very grateful. I am not in a big hurry to leave Oman, but could probably be up and out in September, and return to collect my dog a month or so later.

I've worked in Saudi for a number of years with different employers and have never found a job with guaranteed single compound accommodation.

There may be a few lucky men with military contracts who manage to get this but it does not exist for women. Compound accommodation is just too expensive for employers to justify that.

British school in Riyadh puts teachers up in Al Hamra, which is like hitting the jackpot as far as compounds go.

Multi National School, which has many women working there actually, puts teachers up in RuMaison, which is okay, but a bit old now.

If you want compounds, I would go with real international schools rather than unis, as a woman.

As of two years ago, The British School was only providing shared accommodation at Al Hamra.

Big Durian is right - in many ways that is the jackpot compound for teachers given its location and the general facilities.

However, they (the British School) do not hire esl teachers.

I don't know about RuMaison.

Good Q! Was thinking the same..job with compound accommodation for family.
Big durian, what good int'l schools would they be? And where's multi national school? In Riyadh?

The international schools offering good benefits will require a teaching certificate/license from your home country and a few years of directly related experience. They are very competitive.

In the US, the place to look for these are the International School job fairs which happen a couple times a year at least.

PMU in al-Khobar? Disclaimer: I haven't actually been there. I am communicating with some women working there, and from what I gather it *seems* as if this is the type of accommodation offered.
