So patiently I wait, now into the fourth week for the delivery of the invitation letter to obtain the Z visa...all requested documents submitted and, I am informed-the application is 'processing'. Now we have an 'if' being suggested-if the letter cannot be processed in time, enter on tourist visa-with subsequent conversion trip to Honkers. I'm a little uneasy with this-particularly given that there is/has been plenty of time for the processing.....should I stand my ground? And insist on the letter prior to departure....? Why would this take so long.....? |

I had my invitation letter in hand within two weeks. However, weekends delayed me a bit... It should take that long if my experience is any indication of the process.
Granted, I'm experiencing another issue at the moment (barcode on my invitation letter...), however I don't think I'd enjoy going the Hong Kong route either. |

Don't fall for the trap of arriving on a tourist visa under any circumstances. If the school can really secure a legitimate letter of invitation, then it can wait a little longer for your arrival.
Really. |

The delay may just be them trying to avoid doing it and having you come on an L visa.
If I were you I'd set a timetable, tell them if it's not in your hand in two weeks you won't bother. |

It's a legitimate employer-private University in Southern province, and I've been satisfied regarding my dealings with them....but 4-6 weeks processing time? |

Send an email.
What's probably happened is the person dealing with the admin/foreigners is on summer holiday and isn't back at their job. Or it could be a new hire that doesn't know the process.
Is this uni in Guangdong? |

It's August, which means most of the staff who work in the offices are on vacation before the fall term starts. This time of year it's nearly impossible to get anything done.
There was an error on my salary. I contacted the office several weeks ago. The gal said they'd take care of it. Nothing's been done. It isn't a case of trying to cheat me. There's just no one around. The offices/uni are empty.
But, I'd give them an ultimatum: two weeks or I'm moving on. Even tell them you have another offer. They'll usually get on the ball with that. |
