Next week I fly back to Beijing with my CRC and then a few weeks later the paperwork will be ready for me to go to HK. Fortunately, this way, I figure I can avoid the expense of doing the med check in Canada. I'll just do it in Beijing and take it to HK |

And if you cannot get it that medical check in Canada is suddenly looking cheaper. A month of being unable to work, nothing paid for by the school of course, and you may have to fly all the way back to Canada anyway, |

I somehow doubt it would be the med check they'd insist I get from Canada. My understanding was that I had to apply for the 'Z' from Canada; that HK visa runs were a thing of the past. I'll let you all know in a month. My backup plan is Vietnam or Thailand should that be the case. |

I was just promoted from student to teacher.
I had to travel back to the U.S to change from an X visa to a Beijing Z visa.
The rule could change again in the future, when I first got to Beijing a few years ago, there were no Hong Kong visa runs for people get visas in Beijing, but my second year several of my new colleagues made Hong Kong visa runs, and about halfway through that year, one of my colleagues tried to do that and was denied, and had to return to the U.S. |
