| Every year they drag us to the Special Hospital for International Travel to get poked at and blood sucked and x-rayed. Required for FEC application. Our province has some crazy rules. One year contracts only, and after 5 years you have to take 6 months off, no work allowed, then you can go another five. |

This will show up when I do my chest x-ray again in China... and my doctor has had to disclose it on my visa application form.

I'm not a doctor (obviously) but as part of a complete physical, I underwent my first lung function test which required me to blow into a spirometer. There was no X-ray involved. In a couple of subsequent physicals after spending the year in China, I've complained of lung congestion, and once again, I blew into a spirometer (different doctor). I was told that the test was to test specifically for COPD. I was prescribed an albuterol inhaler (which I've used perhaps a dozen times in seven years). The spirometer test was the only test administered. (I don't have COPD. Irritants in the air caused the congestion).
The spirometer measures how fast you can expel air from your lungs.
I did some research after I read your initial post, and NOWHERE is an X-ray mentioned as a diagnostic tool. Every source mentioned the spirometer. The National Heart, Blood, and Lung Institute ( https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/copd/diagnosis) is a reputable and credible source of information. Read the link, then contact your doctor. You may have been misdiagnosed. Since no one is sure if COPD can be a cause for denial of a visa, I think it wise that you go back to your doctor or see a specialist, then have the original doctor change his diagnosis if COPD is not indicated.
Your diagnosis may have been a mistake, especially if you don't have the specific symptoms. If you have a cough it could be an allergy. If you have difficult breathing, that's another story. COPD is pretty serious, and another professional might be able to change your primary doctor's mind.
Mistakes are made. |

According to the NHBLI:
"A chest x ray or chest CT scan. These tests create pictures of the structures inside your chest, such as your heart, lungs, and blood vessels. The pictures can show signs of COPD."
While Spirometry may be the primary diagnostic tool, it's not the only one. Primary doctors mostly farm out these tests to specialty labs staffed with specialists. They know what they're doing. That was the case with both of my exams in the US when I was diagnosed with COPD both times, from chest x-rays.
Misdiagnosis is always possible in any case, and as for the OP, it seems like a young non-smoker is unlikely to have COPD unless he was exposed to some serious pollutants.
Anyway, COPD diagnosis will not harm his chances for China, which was his original question. |

That's interesting. My reference was NHBLI too. Now when I revisited my link, it is 404. What I read made no mention of X-Ray or CAT scans.
What is the link to your source?
Thanks |

| The link I referenced made no mention of an X-ray as a secondary diagnostic method. Your link does. Thanks. I have been enlightened! |

Yeah the Internet is pretty dumb sometimes. Sometimes you get good info and other times a COPD search will give you the Colorado P.D. The only reason I know about this is from 7 years of looking at it since I was diagnosed. Cheers
I do agree that the OP should have another doc look into his diagnosis. COPD is essentially chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema. Not likely in a young non smoker. |

Hey there,
I'm currently residing in Shenzhen with my Chinese wife.
I'm hopeful of gaining the relevant documentation, visa and what not so I can work legally as a freelancer.
I'm just not sure in how I can find work?
Any advice on recruiting students for private tutoring (1on1 or small groups) ?
I live near a few universities so I could put up a few flyers?
I tried contacting a few major learning centers but they require a signed contract with a 6 to 12 month cmmitment.... I have the same problem when talking to recruiters.
Any suggestions are more than welcome! |

False alarm gents.
My doctor who is now under investigation made a critical misdiagnosis.
I'm in Shenzhen now and feeling completely fine. |

Normally I would suggest that you click on the New Topic button instead of posting an unrelated question on an old thread...but.... there is no such thing as a free-lance visa. If you are to be legally allowed to work in China, you need to arrive on a work visa. Your wife can help get you a non-employment residence permit but she can't help you get work permission. All work visas are employer-tied, so you can't be an entrepreneur legally. You may legally work only for an employer that has authorization to hire foreigners. |

For Some reason my new topic simply merges into this thread. Very frustrating. |

Flyers don't work well in China. You need a face to face approach and some free demos to start with. Chinese love free... Don't we all? |
