Hello,
I have just finished my TEFL 120hr certificate and I am looking to leave the UK with my partner early next year January / February 2017 and head across to Asia for work. After doing some research I am a bit concerned that we will struggle to find something at this time of the year. Does anyone have any advice? E.g. Countries that are pointless trying at this time of the year or countries that we will have better hope in?
Ideally we were looking to aim for Taiwan or Vietnam but are pretty open, although wanting to avoid China if at all possible.
Any advice on this front would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much,

Do you both have degrees? Prior TEFL experience? |

I suggest you head to the Taiwan and Vietnam forums, where you'll get definitive answers on the best times of year for applying for jobs. |

Any particular reason you want to avoid China? |

Check your preferred countries.
For mainstream jobs they usually follow the academic calendar for the country:
Thailand - peak hiring in April/May
Japan - April.
Korea - March starting with hiring occurring 90-180days prior for mainstream and ASAP for language academies.
etc...
with the lowest hiring occurring from Jan to March.
But for language academy jobs it doesn't make much difference when you arrive provided you have your documentation in order.
For Vietnam and Taiwan you will NEED a valid police check as well as your original degrees to show and it wouldn't hurt to bring a certified true copy as well for the employer (in case they lose it).
This is also true for most other countries in East Asia for legal work (proper visas and/or work permits). It is certainly true in countries that pay better and less true in places like Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar who pay much worse.
