Has anyone had any successful renewing the Z visa in BKK?
My school says it is possible... but not for sure. |

It seems researching it that Bangkok will do it as is the case with HK. The important part seems to be if the local jurisdiction will allow it. Is your school sure? We all know who will pay for it if they are wrong. |

I just went on holiday for two weeks and during that time my agency told me my papers were ready. He told me to inquire with the Chinese embassy in Manila and if it was a go, he'd send the paperwork to me to process, but turns out, a big fat no. So, off to Hong Kong I will go in the next couple of weeks to give it a try there. |

Yes, I was living in Cebu when the 2014 change occurred and they hung big signs on the consulate front door that non-residents were no longer able to get Chinese visas in the Philippines. Screwed a couple China-bound teachers I knew big time. I don't think they ever lightened up.
I think the thing with HK and BKK is that they will process them if, and only if, the jurisdiction where you will be residing permits it. |

Just done this in Jakarta last few days.....if you are sent the documents 'naming' the location as the place to provide/process the visa-then it will be done. |

I am sorry, but this is not such great advice. Even if a Chinese embassy-consulate is willing to do it, it must be allowed by the jurisdiction where the teacher is applying.
It really has to be verified that it will be ok'd at both ends on the Chinese side before the teacher should plan. |

Well, if the documents are issued in China naming your foreign jurisdiction they have decided to allow it. |

What does "renewing" a z-visa even mean? You can, in a sense, renew a Residence Permit, but that is done in-country. A z-visa is a one-shot device to enter China for the purpose of employment, sponsored by a specified company or institution. This is a new z-visa, right? That is, it's a different school than the one you got your last z-visa through? |

I wasn't giving advice, just stating a fact. Obviously I clarified in advance that the Z visa could be processed in Indonesia, and I know that it depends upon the regulations of the province, in my case it is Guangxi. Also I think it depends upon the situation regarding what the Chinese offer-in many countries you no longer have to deal with the Embassy/ Consulate at all....because a highly efficient and professional visa application centre is in place. |

I understand your point. I suppose my problem with it was that China bound teachers would read it and might think something like, "Great, now I can travel in Japan for a month and just ask them to address it there."
The situation has become more complicated as you know. I just thought that should have been addressed.

Yeah, if you are planning on vacationing somewhere and getting your Z visa there good luck. Make sure you have invitation letter with stated destination in hand and have contacted the consulate in said destination. As always with things in life, things can and do backfire, so have a plan b, c, d... |

As for Macau, I do not know, but the prc foreign minstry in HK states this clearly, in blue and bold no less :
4, If you don't reside or work in Hong Kong permanently, you are required to apply Chinese visa from the Embassy or Consulate-General of Peoples' Republic of China in your resident country.
http://www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/fwxx/wgrqz/t279924.htm
I would not risk that, as I knew of more than one FT from China in H.K. who got burned.....and will your prospective employer in China help you then? |

Just to let people know, I was told by my Chinese employer that I would not be able to apply for my Z visa in my spouse's country, as I'm not a resident, and that I had to return to my own country. My employer was wrong, and I am now in China on a RP. So, I guess you can always try. |

Congrats. Still does not change the fact that there are more people who have failed in HK, than succeeded. Which country was it where you got your RP? |
