A long time reader and sometime poster. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about Global Teach Ltd. They are a U.K. based recruiting company that supposedly has an agreement with the University of Dammam and places teachers throughout the Kingdom. Here is my story and I hope any potential ESL’er avoids them like the plague.

Last October, I saw an ad by them on a TEFL website mentioning you can teach English at the University of Dammam through Global Teach Ltd. The head of said company is (Mod edit) and he set up an interview with me. The interview went well but he wanted me to pay 800 pounds (1600 Cdn) to take a “MA in TESOL” program in order to be guaranteed a job. Basically it sounded like a finder’s fee.

I protested because my MA was in ESOL plus I had a CELTA and several years of ESL experience and didn’t need it. He told me that in order to be guaranteed a spot I needed to pay up so I did. It was an absolute waste of time.

He told me that I would be paid 17,000 SAR a month with campus housing. I asked for pictures and he never sent them. I asked for a contract with the proper amount but only received a contract from the University of Dammam for 12,000 SAR. I asked him where the other 5000 SAR was and he told me that Global Teach Ltd would pay that. I asked for it in writing but he never sent it.

I paid close to a thousand dollars Canadian for all of my documents in early 2016 and three separate times, he and his company told me my work visa would be ready. It never was. I asked him to set me up with an interview with the Dean of the University of Dammam or to be put in contact with any current teachers he hired but he never did.

Long story short, I pulled the chord in early February 2016 and asked for a refund. He got me to fill out a form and guaranteed it would be wired into my account within two weeks. Eight months later, I still haven’t received it. He ducks me on Skype and ignores my emails. He did write to me through Skype to apologize and that he sent the money a few days ago. I asked him for proof because this has been told to ma at least a dozen times but he doesn’t provide it.

Long story short, do not deal with Global Teach Ltd. (Mod edit) and his company are a bunch of snakes and you shouldn’t pay a fee to be placed at a job. You will never have a job and you won’t see a dime. I live near the University of Dammam and am happily employed elsewhere but if I ever see him in the region I will smash his face in.

There are decent jobs out there. Don’t get snookered by a charlatan or a con man. Don’t be like me.

Thanks for telling us murray1978. Don't be too hard on yourself. these things happen to the best of people.

I have lived in times of high unemployment when there were few jobs available, but this is different.

There is work, we are needed, but the recruitment industry in which these charlatans work, stands between us and the job.

The usual advice on this forum is avoid recruiters and try for direct hire,
if you can.

Sorry that you didn't come here and ask before paying for that ridiculous quasi-MA which just screamed scam. Everyone here would have told you this was a HUGE red flag. That would have also saved you the document costs.

Thanks for posting about the latest scam from these crooks.

For the people that are posting, thank you for your messages. There is a person that frequents this forum quite a bit and I don't know if I am allowed to post his username but I would like to thank this person for sending me these links.

Lesson learned, take it on the chin and this has been a valuable lesson.

Except that it is highly doubtful any job seeker will heed his advice. As I've previously said on this forum:

All protestations to the contrary, most ESL teachers with KSA on their mind, will read and research jobs and employers until they're blue in the face, and then despite everything that they've been told, will simply turn around and start the application process.

I can practically guarantee that all protestations to the contrary, murray1978 did indeed do his fair research on this company.....and then went right ahead and applied for the "job" anyway.

"Never say Die" For some reason, it is a common trait among ESL teachers to the Kingdom that they are convinced that their fortunes and experience with KSA employment will be quite different from everybody else's. That somehow they're immune from the trials and tribulations that befall the best intentioned teacher. That they're somehow "special", that the would-be KSA employer recognizes him as a unique outstanding individual and that his treatment will thus be of the highest order.

Like a reborn baby Buddha emerging from a jetliner, he'll exude learning and bring forth wisdom and enlightenment to his forever grateful students.

When reality hits, it's an ugly thing to watch.

The thief that runs the company is someone whose names begins with J. He was in charge of the London Edex team a few years ago and notoriously took £500 payment from many despite Edex having lost their key KSU contract and not having any job vacancies. He raked in as much as he could, then refused to refund and closed shop.

It seems he has decided to continue this 'lucrative' business with Global teach.

This disgusting low-life vermin is based in London, not Saudi Arabia. I have met him and he is very good at sweet talking. Just a matter of time before he is dealt with.

I will be dealing with him if I run into him here in the Kingdom and it won't be a pretty sight.

If you look at the UAE branch here, there is a whole thread, running for a few years now, devoted to the many scam ads out there. A few of them involve Saudi Arabia, but I suspect that the "fame" of Dubai has led to it getting most of the scams.
