Hello. I recently received a job offer in Nanjing and would like to know if it is one worth taking. It is with First Leap, monthly salary is 8,000 RMB plus 3,000 RMB living stipend. 6,000 RMB relocation bonus. paid flight there and 8,000 RMB flight reimbursement if contract is completed. There is also the possibility of a monthly bonus of 1000 RMB is job performance is good.

Can you get the email address of someone currently working there or has recently left? Due diligence requires that you check out that specific school. If your contact won't provide that its not a good sign.

Offer seems ok but you should research the cost of living in NJ. Also delve deeper into exactly what criteria the monthly bonus is based on, and if its actually attainable.

Most of your questions can be answered by talking to someone who's working there or has worked there.

Good luck!

Contact hours is a biggie and make or break the conditions.
Otherwise look at the Job Offer Checklist thread.

If it's not office hours and maybe 16 hours of working a week it might be ok, otherwise, I'd pass.

You'll spend that 3000 PLUS MORE on your housing, the 11000 will be taxed so you'll walk away with about 9800.

9800 then minus about 4000 for a good place plus all bills [bills are gas, internet, electric, community fee, other small things around the house, changing light bulbs, something breaking, cost of having to buy something they might not have ie small oven etc] so you're left with 5800.

How many hours a week is the job? Nanjing is not too cheap

Have lived in both nanjing and hong kong, and nanjing is much cheaper. Lots of african students there and they seem to manage ok. HK is far more costly for food, beer and everything...so even if the rent was high in Nanjing, living cost would be low, just my tuppence....
