It was a great victory and demonstrated that the standard for Asian Football has risen. There is little doubt that an Asian team will be in at least the semis of the next World Cup and Olympic glory isn't out of the question either.

Japan beat the home team handily, by a score of 3 - 1.

http://edition.cnn.com/2004/SPORT/football/08/07/china.japan/index.html

There were riots in Beijing after the game! And the fans in the stadium drowned out Japan's national anthem with their booing. But we were all kind of expecting that.

Many Chinese people really dislike the Japanese, it's sad. I wonder if it's mutual?

Anyway, it was a good game.

Yeah but weren't the chinese acting like little children because they lost? I have heard stories about Chinese people and their personalities but I never thought that they could be so immature as to not only boo Japan drowning out their national anthem while the Japanese never did that to China, but when they were beaten they just couldn't resist the urge to vandalise cars as a result or resist shouting anti-japanese slogans dating back to Japanese occupational times.

Note: Please consider that my post sounds racist but I'm just showing my disgust at their behaviour post-match rather than expressing prejudice.

Yes, the Japanese don't like the Chinese, but then they don't like anyone who isn't Japanese.

I don't know about the US and Canada but surely if the US team lost they wouldn't go round chanting "Down with Canada" and breaking car windows, would they?

I've been to a LOT of NHL games, and the only time I've ever seen this happen was at a Montreal/Colorado game. This is not a common practice.

What's really sad is Japan has yet to apologise for what they did to China in WW2 and are doing their best to quietly brush it under the carpet. I don't blame the Chinese for not liking Japan, no more than I'd blame Jews for not liking Germany - although Germany's done a lot better job trying to make good for what they did than Japan is.

I wonder if the Chinese goverment would like to apologize to to it's people for the millions that MAO slaughtered in his retarded "great leap" while he stuffed his fat a** with dim sum and wrote bad poetry?

I don't think America will apologize for the nuclear bombs it dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki either!!

I'd say a better thing to do would be encourage the proper study of history through debate, essays and reading textbooks with themes besides "the answer is because it is." This would do many a country, especially Japan and China, a great deal of good than a round of hollow unfelt apologies!

Your definitely right about Germany making a strong attempt to right the wrong of it's past with jews though!

Migo;

What kind of apology do YOU think would be acceptable? The Chinese dont seem to know, they just keep the hatred alive.

If money (compensation for the war) is the issue, it is a dead one. It was resolved in 1972 when Japan and China formally started diplomatic relations. CHina officially renounced all future claims for compensation. Besides, Japan pumps over 2 billion dollars a year of aid into China. I find it troubling that a nation with a space program still accepts handouts from other, richer nations.

IMHO, issues like this one and Taiwan are used by the regime in Beijing to distract the general populace of China from more pressing issues, such as poverty and political oppression.

Me too! I also find it disturbing that one of the world's biggest spenders on it's military has the nerve to accept so called "foreign aid" and still bite the hands that feed it!

However, if one looks at Chinese history, there wil be a time reckoning for the so called "People's" regime in Beijing!

That would be nice too, but just because they won't doesn't mean the Japanese shouldn't either.

No, probably not. They're too arrogant to apologise.

That would be a good start, but then again that's another thing the Chinese are upset about with the Japanese - they're just refusing to talk about what they did, so the younger generation of Japanese hardly knows what happened. I'd say that a lot of asia is upset that not only is Japan not apologising, but they're just running away from it.

The Chinese people I've talked to seem to think that just an official apology from the Japanese government would be good. There's not much else that could be done now, but they'd like some aknowledgement from the Japanese.

Money isn't the issue, like I said they'd like some aknowledgement.

It's probably true, but if Japan were to apologise there would be one less thing for them to distract the people with.

Just because China is opressing people doesn't mean the Japanese are exempted from giving a simple apology.
