| Forgot to mention, I don't know what 10-year business visas cost, but I will guess under 10,000 yuan; obviously you need to ask. Likely 1- and 2-year visas are available as well, though the cost per year is definitely higher. What can you make? Private tutoring I would say minimum in Guangzhou would be 250 yuan per hour, and you can make more especially with kidlets if you establish a reputation. After-school/weekend private places will pay 200 yuan or a bit less per hour. |

| ok that's good mate but I prefer to just get a business visa in person in Korea or Hong Kong. Korea is the best though. Anyone like her do it here? Or who does it in HK? |

You have to do it in person in HK like you say.
A few agencies in T.S.T for sure, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Harbour Road in Wanchai. |

| As you wish but know that dealing face-to-face does not necessarily guarantee that the people you are dealing with are trustworthy. |

Hi
Just wondering how easy it would be to just fly to the city you want to teach in, knock on some doors and pick up a teaching job. I want to be around Guangzhou area and not keen on the cold winters up north. I am qualified and have some experience. Spoken to few agencies and lot's of jobs up north but very few down south.
Cheers |
Easy, but Guangdong province almost certainly won't allow you to process your work visa application in Hong Kong. Even Shanghai doesn't allow it for first-time applicants. You will need to fly back to your home country to apply. |
Thats not true about Shanghai. Several teachers at my school got their Z visa in country. They had never worked in China before. |

That last post is ridiculous. You need to get your z-visa to enter the country. How could you get it in Shanghai? |

Another eye roller! You get it in Shanghai as Shanghai has changed the process. There have been several recent posts over the last few months which have discussed this and include links.
Apparently, according to a press release, you can also get it online through a site they have set-up, but I have not read anything else on that. |

Who said you need a Z Visa to enter China in the first place??? That's how I came and a couple other late hires came... on a tourist VISA then I got it switched over in Shanghai...
"Notice2: 1st July 2015, For employee of the company, if you hold a L, F, or X visa now and want to apply for the working permit (Alien Employment Permit) and residence permit, you DON'T NEED to leave the country anymore." |

The muppets I work for (in SH) sent me all the way back to my country to get a Z visa, when I was in Xiamen last summer.
I could have gone to HK.
They then said that the return flight was my flight for my first year of working for them. Thus I got no return flight/reimbursement at the end of Year 1.
Getting fed up with the ineptitude and/or cheating ways.
Hope to be outta here in 6-12 months. |

I'm not surprised by that. Other companies will say its also impossible and you should return to your home country. I work for one of the most famous and prestigious preschools in the country (meaning they have pull and connections, not that they are a good place to work for). My guess is that some companies can bend rules more than others and at the end of the day we as teachers will always suffer for it. It seems that you should choose companies very very wisely as they make or break and experience and even then its no guarantee that something like that won't happen.
The law just changed though last summer I think so maybe it wasn't enforced yet? |

Is there anyone PRESENTLY LIVING IN CHINA who can attest FIRST HAND to the proposal that a z visa can be procured in Shanghai?
It would be interesting to see a scan of the initial visa of entry then the ensuing Z visa. |

| Doubt many would be willing to share their visa scans on a public forum. I personally don't really care, but if you really want to know why not contact the FEB in Shanghai and ask? |

Well I am in the process. I will let you know how it goes. Again a couple of colleagues that I see at work did it that way as well. The most annoying thing is that listening to others who work in other parts of China I was sure I'd have to have my degree authenticated so I paid 140$ for a rush service, but they only needed the original copy of my degree, background check, medical check (done in Shanghai although the school personally preferred it beforehand), original copy of my TEFL, and reference letters |

That is an interesting request.
It seems that if you had your paperwork at the ready you could arrive with no visa. Haha! It is done right at the port of entry. If you arrive with another valid visa, you can apply for the residence permit directly inside Shanghai.
Considering that Shanghai is part of the new 144 hour transit visa zone, I would personally arrive with my z-visa paperwork ready, a fake airline ticket to a Third country, and a printout of the transit visa policy to protect my butt with the airlines and immigration.
It would be nice to know exactly what occurs when one arrives at the Shanghai port of entry. "Ni hao! I am here for my z-visa." |
