Does anyone know if it's possible to obtain a student visa by taking a CELTA course in Poland?
The person enquiring has approx. one month left on a tourist visa and will need to extend that in order to take the CELTA beginning approx. one month from now. |

I would very much doubt the Polish government would issue a student visa for a course provided by a private entity - it's very doubtful CELTA is recognized as 'education' by the Polish state. I realize that CELTA courses are accredited by Cambridge, but as that's not a Polish institution, I don't think they'd recognize it.
Will be curious if you hear otherwise! |

| In theory, if the school is accredited by the MEN, it will be possible. But if he has a month left, why not go to Ukraine for two weeks? He'll then have 6 weeks left on the Schengen clock, allowing him to complete the course. |

Scott's right, as far as I know. Last time I checked was 2014.
FYI, the boarder runs keep you legal in Poland, but if you go to another Schengen country, they may not honor your reentry stamp and deport you or give you an EU ban. |

| I can confirm that border runs still work fine as long as you're within the 90 days. Just don't go to other schengen countries. After almost four years here I'm finally getting a proper karta pobytu though. Border runs get old. |

4 years of border runs and you're just now getting legal? I can imagine how those border runs would get old!
When I taught in Thailand in '09, I knew several guys who had used up whole passports doing border runs for years to stay in the Land of Smiles. I only know a couple who do/did it in Poland. |

Sure they do, and the process is arduous in many countries, including the ol' U S and A. But when you compare that hassle with doing border runs to/from Ukraine every 90 days for 4 years... Personally, I'd take the Immigration hassle!
I was on a first name basis with some of those drones in Dluga 5, Warszawa by the end of my 4 year stint in Poland.  |
