We moved to Taif in 2011. My husband flew over first, and then I flew over with my 4 kids and 2 cats. I was also pregnant... it was a delightful trip. Razz We kept both cats in the cabin with us. We flew into Jeddah and then drove to Taif from there. Points to note:

1. There was quite a bit of paperwork that took some running around to get in order. Give yourself time for this. You need papers from the local vet, and then you get them approved at a state agency, and then it all has to go to DC to be stamped at a couple of different places.
2. We had to carry all their travel documents in hand with us on the flight.
3. Our travel agent didn't warn us, and there was something like a $300 ticket per cat when we were boarding the plane.
4. About the cat carrier... we brought them in hard plastic carriers and on one leg of our flight (inside the US) we were required to rent the airline's cloth carriers that could squish under the seat better, at $50 per cat. Lesson learned, buy flexible cat carriers.
5. Our vet recommended to me never to sedate cats on planes, because unlike dogs it doesn't relax them and allow them to sleep. Instead, he said it sort of keeps them immobile, but they are fully aware and panicked. He emphasized to keep them in the cabin with us if at all possible.

Good luck to you and your kitty!
