|
|
When I enquired about employment with an Australian organisation a few months back, they offered me work at a Chinese university but suggested I apply for a business visa, to get around the complications of the Z visa for this semester.
I was told I would have to say I was not employed by the company in the visa interview. It seems to me that it is the teacher who risks applying for a visa and getting turned down, thereby causing themselves long term visa problems, while the company gets away scot free. But that is just a guess. Can anyone tell me the process if you apply for a business visa when really you plan to teach? And why would a Chinese university allow such a visa set up? Wouldn't they worry about illegal teachers? |

You don't need an interview for a business visa or Z visa. |

Thanks for letting me know. What documents do you need to validate applying for a business visa? Some sort of invite letter? |

Check with your local Chinese consulate for this information. Get the info straight from the horse's mouth.
It's a REALLY BAD idea to come to work for a Chinese school on anything but a Z visa. There may be exceptions to the rules, but I wouldn't accept any information except information from the consulate.
Due to the capricious nature of the application of Chinese law, any information that you get is anecdotal. You'll rarely get empirical information about Chinese law from seemingly trustworthy sources. You may be given the truth, but that truth in that city in that province may not apply elsewhere in China.
Worse, sometimes the local Chinese consulate will get it wrong or they just don't know.
But start with your local Chinese consulate. |

Thanks for the advice, but things being so vague, I never followed through with the application. Wow, China is a minefield these days. |

Dodgy as hell. What "complications" did they tell you are involved with a Z visa? Last time I did it (a while ago but I doubt much has changed) the school sent two documents to me > I sent those documents to the Chinese embassy in my country with my passport > embassy sent passport back with Z visa.
The school wants me, I want the school, so why would there be complications?
Telling you to lie during a visa interview should be enough of a red flag to steer clear of this organisation. |

Really? That's all you had to send to the consulate? Do you have the five year residence permit or the ten-year permit?
Just asking. |
