That's a British check drawn on a major international bank. How about a Saudi check?

As we all have stated, ask your bank in the US. But if you don't have an account in the States, then... Confused

Are you still working for this sponsor? If you can't cash any of the checks they give you, you're basically working for free. Why stay in that situation?

NS, My guess, is the OP's situation appears to be a catch 22, keeping the OP stuck. Money earned and not able to transfer home, stops one from leaving. I suppose until that money issue has been resolved, one is more likely to remain in the awkward situation. So as you stated, ...worked for free or not. A lesson in futility?

Well, I see the normal Chicken Littles, the-sky-is-falling crowd have arrived in mass on this post. Again, remember there are a group of people posting on this site (they know who they are) that are just being obstructionist to anyone who asks a question like this. Now, at least one of these people has never actually worked in KSA (I have at 2 different universities and I am here right now) or they worked here a long time ago (in at least one instance literally last century) or they are so blinded by ego because they worked as a Direct Hire as opposed to on a Business Visa ( I have done both in two Gulf countries) that they can't see past their own nose or they simply do not know what they are talking about.
Anyway, what you are asking is done every single day. This is the 21st century and even if you make what I do, and you saved every nickel and brought it all home for a full year in check form (about $60,000USD) it would be no problem at all. You do know that even that amount, $60,000, is not considered that much money from a banking standpoint any more? People routinely wire that amount back and forth to the Gulf. This is done many thousands of times a day, and it is often delivered in check form between banks, and is delivered by couriers in many hundreds of flights daily. People now spend that much for a single vacation in the Emirates! And yes, I have done this before as I wrote above. Trust me, there is absolutely no problem cashing a check drawn on a foreign bank in your home country. If you doubt me, simply call your bank up and ask them. They will tell you exactly what I am telling you about this issue.
Here is what my country's (the US) Treasury Department says about this issue.
Do not listen to these people (they know who they are) on issues like this! I honestly think the moderators need to "clean house" on some of these people on this board, as they are now actually causing other, more inexperienced posters, financial problems/damage/unnecessary fear by deliberately giving incorrect information to others.

-------------------------------------------
6040.10—Foreign Checks Listed

Checks that are drawn on foreign banks, payable in foreign currency, and listed on the tradable currency list (Section 6065), or listed in OTCnet’s currency code drop down box, will be processed in OTCnet as foreign check items. These items will be treated as cash letter items. Cash letter items are immediately cleared and are granted provisional credit within two business days following the day the financial agent receives the check.

A separate deposit must be created for each type of foreign currency.

The agency depositor will:

Log into OTCnet Deposit Processing
Create a deposit for a foreign check item
Select the appropriate currency code (under Foreign Currency Information)
Enter the foreign currency amount (under Foreign Currency Information)
Mail the OTCnet deposit ticket and foreign check to:

Bank of America
Foreign Transit Items
TX1-160-05-31
1950 N Stemmons Fwy
Suite 5049
Dallas, TX 75207

The exchange rate and USD conversion amount will be determined and entered into OTCnet by the financial agent. The financial agent will confirm the deposit in OTCnet, and field #4 (Amount) on the OTCnet deposit ticket will be populated.

americanjoe, your personal attacks on posters that comment comes off as boorish behavior with such Trumped up claims. In addition, judging by what you wrote, it appears you have also insulted a whole slew of other people that read these comments as too naïve to understand, accept or reject any or all responses. Your advice is dully noted, so why project your angst onto other posters merely for having an opinion. It also appears you have accused moderators of not doing their job...tsk tsk.

Honestly, if another poster on here bothers you so much, just ignore him/her, or logout and take some time away from the boards, go for a walk, read a book, watch some movies, do whatever you do that you enjoy....the boards will still be there when you decide to come back to them. But that is just me, each to their own as always.

I wouldn't rely on banking details posted on this thread. I really wouldn't. You should contact your bank in your home country and find out. There are other options for transferring your money back home: Cash the check in Saudi Arabia and transfer the cash electronically.

Uh, I suggested the same back in October, but the OP didn't respond:

Have you looked into cashing your paycheck at the bank it's drawn from by using your passport? Otherwise, what options, if any, did your sponsor offer you? Have you and the other teachers even approached the company with this issue?

There are many academic frasier crane types in the gulf, so that video is quite apt, lol
