The SACM doesn't rely solely on what's printed on the diploma or transcript when authenticating degrees; they require verification from the registrar. Head to the SACM's website, and click on "Forms" on the left menu for the authentication application, distance form, and consent form. Frankly, if you're in the UAE while completing a degree at a university located in the US, it will be obvious to prospective employers that you have online course credits. |
Well, crap.
From here: http://www.sacm.org/pdf/Applicationauthentication.pdf
Required documents for all applicants:
...
#9 Distance Learning Form
And here is that form:
http://www.sacm.org/pdf/DistanceLearning.pdf
Which specifically asks the university to list "any coursework completed through distance/online, hybrid, web-based, web-enhanced,
or web-enabled classes."
Again I say... crap. |

We aren't planning to do it like this. I'm not waiting for my husband to find a job and then accompanying him over and then looking for my own job. We are each looking for jobs simultaneously. We'll have his job sponsor him, the kids, and the housing, since as a PhD he'll get a better package than me. Then I'll have my job sponsor me. I realize I won't get any housing stipend, but my pay shouldn't be lower, right? |
I think your plan as outlined above is unrealistic. So many disparate items have to fall into place at just the right time for your plan to succeed. I can see all kinds of things tripping you up.
And....it's not like you can accept one or two things not falling into place and still be able to pull it off. No....this is the kind of situation that if only ONE thing goes wrong, the entire anthill collapses. It's either all or nothing.
Plus, there's another angle not yet mentioned. I frankly think you're going to have unbelievable problems from day one getting the KSA authorities (at every level) to accept an arrangement whereby your husband and you enter KSA with independent visas - especially if children are involved. There's going to be all kinds of questions related to your conjugal arrangements. Where are you going to live? Alone? With your husband and kids? But your employer may not offer you the opportunity to do this.
What about vacations? Will your vacation and his coincide? Will the kids come over under HIS visa or yours? If with him, he's going to have to come over on a "married" visa, while you're entering with a "singles" visa. There are going to be "questions" about this. Will the kids be able to leave KSA (say on emergency) with YOU? Not if they came over on HIS visa........ And so on......it's just one problem after another of this kind..... endlessly.
You'll be putting yourself and your family under a sort of constant scrutiny. There may even be "rules" forbidding this kind of arrangement.
If I were you, I'd settle for what you mentioned in your first sentence above. Wait until your husband gets a job and then come over with him and kids as part of his visa. Then you find whatever job you can near your residence location. Any other arrangement is bound to unravel and possibly leave you both without a job. |

I think you're being overly negative Hash. I have known couples with separate visas, and there wasn't any problems. Actually I know a couple in my university, and they have a separate visa: neither sponsors the other. Yes Amina might have to enter KSA on a separate date. No big deal. I would advise the kids to be on their father's visa. Holidays being on different dates: unlikely if they both work in education. However, the summer holidays might be shorter for one of the spouses. Again, no problem. After all, people in France for example usually only get 30 days per year, while their kids have the regular school holidays. They stay home and try to find stuff to do. If the kids need to go back to the US for any reason: they can. Their guardian (their sponsor, i.e. their mom or dad) will just need to write a letter allowing them to travel if they do so without him/her. My kids can travel without me and I am their sponsor.
Yes, if they get a job in the same city, only one housing allowance will be paid though.
I think they should try. |

I believe the same goes for authenticating your TESOL qualification (i.e., CELTA/equivalent in-person TEFL cert). Hopefully, others can confirm this. |

I've known some people doing that back in the days when the unis were paying well. Now, Saudi unis may not be that willing to give you a separate visa. They may ask you to work on dependent visa. |

There was mention in the above post of only one spouse being paid housing allowance if both are on separate visa's. I know this is the case in nearly all contracts. However my question is, is it the law? For instance, is it in the Saudi labor law that only one person can claim housing if a married couple work for 2 different employers? |

Housing isn't addressed in the labor law since it's not a mandated benefit. Plus, there's no incentive for employers to provide separate housing, especially since Saudi Arabia's patriarchal culture expects husband and wife to live together under one roof. |

You will not get two housing allowances. the Saudis expect a couple to live together in a joint household. One housing allowance will be paid.
What you are trying to do will be perceived by Saudi as an attempt at trickery. |
