A friend is in this situation. What are his rights? He's South African, if that matters. Thanks. |

If he entered KSA more than 90 days ago on an employment/work visa and his employer hasn't been responsive, then he needs to file a complaint with the labor ministry. However, if he has a business/work visit visa, it doesn't qualify him for a muqeem ID card. |

Well, if he is there on a business or work visit visa, he will not receive one. If however his employer has promised to sponsor and he has not received the legally required "iqama", which is awkward to pronounce,he is better taking it up with his employer/and doing what NS has recommended above. It may require a return to south africa to complete the process also. Perhaps one of the vets on the ground can advise further? Good luck to your friend. |

If caught by the Saudi authorities, he will be detained in the Saudi Detention Centre, pay fines, and deported. In addition, he will be banned from entering the Magic Kingdom for some years. |

My first gig in Saudi I didn't get an Iqama for 5 and 1/2 months. Just kept my head down and stored the cash in various pockets and pillows around my apartment. I tried contacting my Embassy but that only resulted in my boss being even more aggressive with me.

I believe that if you are on a work visa which is transferable to an iqamah and the sponsor doesn't give you an iqamah within the allotted time frame then you are able to transfer to another sponsor. |
