|
|
Hi Everyone,
I am currently a teacher in China. One of my students, a 50 year-old adult, tells me that his dream job is becoming an English teacher, much as we are. I told him I'd research books that helped him directly do this.
Is there any books, websites, etc. where he could learn techniques that we learned to get our CELTA, etc.?
I feel very humble in asking this question, as I am a CELTA holder but do not have the slightest idea of how to develop a teacher training curriculum. I'd like him to be able to teach basic English right alongside me. |

You mean, "are" there any books....
Even if your student doesn't pursue the CELTA, does he have the following:
- A standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education
- English proficiency to teach at a range of levels? (Minimum CEFR Level C1–C2 or above.)

How to Teach English by Jeremy Harmer and Learning Teaching by Jim Scrivener would both be good places to start. |

And there are even relatively painless and substantially cheaper Chinese translated versions available for some of these books. For example, I found the following by simply searching Amazon China for 'Harmer ELT 中文':
