Hello all,
I have five years of ESL experience and have just got my state teaching license. I am ready to make the transition to better things.

I will make a grand stab at getting into a good international school, however the competition will be keen.
Therefore, my backup plan is to get into a public elementary school.

My question is for those who know, those who are there and who have knowledge of the way things go.

Do public schools there hire full-time foreign teachers and if so, are they paid more or the same as local school teachers?

I ask this question because it seems some countries do, some don't, and some have a system where foreigners just show up to teach a class or two. Also, it is hard to find the information quickly...

I appreciate any information you may have.. Thanks!

If a "foreign teacher" were in Brazil legally it would be possible for a foreign teacher to work at a public school but why would the foreign teacher be paid more?

I think the thing to understand is that no public school is going to assist a foreign teacher with obtaining a visa to become legal in order to work at said school.

Brazil doesn't

You could move here and get a bachelors degree,in English, and then apply to teach in Public Schools.

Unfortunately English teaching in Brazilian schools, public and private, is stuck in the old grammar translation methodology. Teachers don't really have to be much proficient in English (and most of them aren't). The only requirement is to have a bachelor's degree in "Letras" and so be recognized by the Ministry of Education as an "English teacher". Bureaucracy for hiring a foreigner is an insurmountable obstacle and an inconceivable idea for a school manager. Teenagers are learning more English on the Internet that at school.
