I have non-education B.A. + CELTA + 8 years experience in secondary schools and colleges in Europe, Asia, and the middle east.

I've been offered 4500SGD with a light teaching schedule. No other bonuses.

Is this about right for my qualifications and experience?

Also, Recommend any other forums?

Thank you

Is accommodation included in the package? Overall, it sounds on the low side to me when you compare it to what you can earn elsewhere. However, a low teaching load and living in Singapore would be the plus points. You may be able to work your way up in time as well..

No accommodation.

Elsewhere in Singapore or elsewhere in the world? I'm currently looking only in Singapore.

If the OP is single and does not need to save much or pay debts, it should be fine, especially given the benefit of having a light workload. Figure S$2000 per month for rent, utilities, and 5-10% in taxes. So about S$2000 will left over for other expenses. This isn't much, but should be ok. The OP could save money by getting a roommate, and possibly pick up a second job, etc. Bottom line: it could work.

Thanks,

I'll be living with someone so it should work out.

The question was focused on whether or not I was getting a fair offer.

I don't know the situation in Singapore. You could probably earn more in Hong Kong or the Middle East. As a way into Singapore the job offer could be worth pursuing.

Based on your creds, it's probably about as good a deal as you're gonna get. Plus you seem to like Singapore and can make the money work with a shared flat and all. I'd say it beats being broke by a long shot. Cheers mate!

It's a reasonable offer given your experience and qualifications. There are many people teaching longer hours and earning less. I'd say this is a fair base point from which to start your Singapore experience.

Could you please tell us what you consider a light teaching load?

Thanks Smile
