I have to interview a few applicants next week and I've never done it before. Any tips? |

Let them do the talking. You will soon spot the crazy ones. Weeding out the manifestly mad is the best you can do. |

Plus, be sure to allow at least 7-8 minutes at the end of the interview for the candidates' questions. |
Write down the question they ask you (as closely to their wording as possible) this will help you decide who you think will fit in the best. If they don't have any questions for you, then ask them to tell you what they know about the place and what they expect a typical day will be like. No questions, could be the sign of someone who has done their research. But it will more likely be the sign of someone who has no idea what they are getting into.
As soon as possible after the each interview, talk about it with a trusted friend or colleague. If you are making the decision collectively this is essential, but even if the decision is entirely your own this will help you plant your feelings about each applicant. |

I'd pass on the generic questions- keep it natural. |

Very true words there, likewise, I also agree.
