I wonder if anyone has any information they would care to share about summer camps or pre-sessional courses that run in China during July/August?

Most international schools run summer camps in two different sessions.
Is there a city you were looking at in particular? |

Mom n Pop language schools generally have summer classes. some are serious uni prep for freshmen and some are just somewhere to send the kids for wealthy folk.
I found these better than travelling to a distant location, as you can get something local and live in your familiar uni apartment on campus. |

No city in particular, flexible about this, as I am just looking to fill in some time. The pay and conditions will be the main factor.
Would you suggest contacting the international schools directly - somewhat time consuming - or do the schools advertise somewhere at some point in the year, or perhaps using a recruiting agent (fear the latter will top slice the salary though).
I should say I am in Asia but out of China now (have no current work visa), and anyway we all know moonlighting is a visa violation. |

I should say I am in Asia but out of China right now so have no current paperwork. I expect to have a job set up somewhere for Sept 1st and am just looking to fill in some time before the new academic year starts.
Any ideas welcome.

Yes you really need to be in country to access the local opportunities.
If you can commit to July and August you should see opportunities advertised May/June.
Just make sure your visa pathway is well thought out. If you look at summer programmes inside China you will activate your Z visa on entry.
It is my understanding that the residence process must be activated by your employer-of-record pretty much immediately after entry. The HK option does seem best and I have no knowledge of HK temporary work visas.
This really puts the negotiation of your Sept start job back to April which may be problematic.
Don't want to be a Cassandra here but don't be caught out. |

When I was in China I met a woman whose permanent place of work/residence was Spain who had just completed a few weeks EAP pre-sessional course with a university, just 'cause she fancied a look at China. So it is possible to pick up these short term gigs remotely. Unfortunately I didn't get details from her.
See what comes up.

I know how it works in my school is they hire internally first, and then externally. If you are really interested you can go to some international school websites in a city you are looking at and they have a link for summer school. You need to have a teaching degree for the international schools though.
I'd suggest that because you are not in China, to look into teaching in Korea for summer school. There are many jobs for July/August for summer schools. You can even check the Korean job board on Daves. Unless of course you have your heart set on China. Check the China job board for summer school opportunities. Summer school postings should start coming up in March or so. |

I know how it works in my school is they hire internally first, and then externally. No, I'm not fixed on China about this, I will look into Korea as you suggest. But I've formed the idea (perhaps wrongly) that the Korean paperwork process is involved and difficult, so to embark on that for just a few weeks is off putting. Am I wrong? |

| ^I can't tell you which country is more more difficult for summer school paperwork, but I know a few people that went to Korea just to teach summer school and were paid well, with accommodations. A lot of schools hire from within the country, but not always. |

At the risk of labouring the point IF you don't want to return home to get your Z visa, you will need it before you leave for your summer job.
This means getting a job offer from a legit school somewhat earlier than they normally focus on this task.
Not sure what the solution is but we have any number of posts in August and December from folks who are sweating on receiving an offer letter and juggling flights. |
