Hi there
A recruiter just told me that it's a requirement for me to return to my home country for a security check in order to apply for a z visa. Upon searching some visa websites, there isn't any mention of this requirement. Is it possible to apply from a country which is not your country of citizenship and nominate somebody to go to a Chinese consulate to submit my application? Do I physically have to go home to apply? |

It used to be possible for Z visas to be issued to other countries, I'm not sure if that still is possible or not. The key thing is to have the paperwork say the correct embassy e.g. if you're doing it in Bangkok have all the paperwork say Bangkok. But again, not sure if that's possible now.
Hong Kong used to be a popular compromise, and I think it still is, though recently people have had applications declined. If you're in HK best use an agency.
I have to have a police check for my next job but I'm doing it online and having friends post it to me. |

Hong Kong may still be an option. As mentioned above, ensure docs state the specific embassy. |

Recruiter sounds uninformed. You can pay services to get all of your ducks in a row in terms of the current's jurisdiction's ever changing requirements for CBC, medical, authenticated degree, etc. Not too cheap or easy. Whether you need to return to your home country for the z-visa is also dependent on the jurisdiction. Over the last few years most made you return home. A few permitted the application to be done in HK or a few other hit-or-miss locales.
Now they are running a visa-on-arrival pilot program in seeming competition with a unified work visa pilot program where you can-will be able to apply online. Depends on the jurisdiction again. Shanghai now allows a tourist visa to be converted in county. Confused? Welcome to the crowd...
You want to focus your research on the current provence and even city of where you will be working. Best! |
