I doubt if this question will yield any positive results but, does anyone know of a situation where a non-native speaker would be hired to teach ESL online? A friend of mine here in Hungary is looking into online teaching for its flexible nature. I understand that this not ideal or "legit." But is there any job worth looking into that would pay even a haypenny for someone who is a non-native speaker. One who has a natural affinity for English.

It's unclear what you mean by a "natural affinity" for English, but your friend might have a better chance of selling the idea to prospective employers if he/she has a CELTA or other valid TEFL cert, a uni degree, some teaching experience, and a decent IELTS score.

He has an affinity, meaning, a natural understanding. He has good Engish skills but sadly no bonafide certifications. I think what you mentioned is a great idea. He should look into some sort of TEFL cert and hopefully he can go from there. It's a bit of a stretch for him to find work anyway which is expected. Thanks for the idea.

That is no longer the case. They recently changed that policy after pressure from TESOL International Association.

It would take quite some time (if ever) but he could also consider going the independent route through websites like Myngle. Perhaps there is a market for students who would like to work with non-certified NNES for budget reasons.
