HI all,
I m sorry to bother, I know its low chance...if anyone here can give me some ideas:
Any chance to teaching in China for a USA black man aged 57 (look like 47), non degree holder, no english teaching experience or certificate.
Any course can take if can help.
Thanks everyone. |

Except for your nationality, pretty much everything you list in your profile is a strike against you in terms of employment -- legal or otherwise.
Look into Mexico and Central and South America where you might be able to find valid work with just a CELTA or SIT TESOL cert. I suggest you head to those forums for more info and guidance. |

Your lack of quals and the fact that you cannot legally teach here without a degree means you're most likely wasting your time.
Since you brought up the black man element, the vast majority of Chinese still consider people with black skin to be scary, dirty and dangerous even. |

Rachelmay,
Don't take the negative racial aspect personally. The Chinese are very prejudiced against anyone who has dark skin: Hispanic, Arab, and African.
I've worked with people of African descent, but they were degreed and quite young. If you think that China is bad, check out Japan. You could be lily white, but at your age, you'd be considered a geezer.
As others have said, your lack of quals won't get you on the plane unless you come with a foreign company or you have a tourist visa. |

That position entails working with 3-6 year olds. It's highly doubtful a 57-year-old man is who the ad targets.
The OP's age is still the bigger issue for Thailand as well. Plus, that Thai university BA may be sufficient for Thailand, but don't count on it having much weight elsewhere in the world.

With all due respect, please don´t send him to Mexico. The number of untrained and unqualified teachers here is already overwhelming. |

Unfortunately, Mexico and the rest of Latin America are the last few places on the planet where N. Americans can teach without a degree. |

Of course there is a chance. Demand is huge and plenty of people on the mainland not strictly meeting the native speaker requirements nevertheless get work.
Ok. You don't have a degree and that's a major drawback but I'm sure it's not a killer blow.
I am more interested in how you came at the age of 57 to be interested in a complete career change. Tefl involves leaving home etc. What is your background? |

The poster needs to strike China from his wish list. Even if the age and racial discrimination did not exist, the lack of experience and degree will not meet current requirements for working papers. I think overall East Asia will be tough to crack.
I have three online gigs; Saudi Arabia, France and Japan. The fact that I am 50 means nothing in the first two. However, I get very few students in Japan, despite rave reviews and a George Clooney like sexy profile pic.
You might be yet another teacher who I would think may be better served by trying to build a career online. You may also want to consider some country like Armenia. These out of the way countries can be quite nice to live in, and with a lot less competition and stringent requirements for working papers. You don't see job ads for many of these kind of countries, but ESL job opportunities exist. You could also look at a hybrid solution of online work and picking up work/tutoring while living there. |

I suggest you head over to the Newbie forum and post your background info (i.e., nationality, race, age, work experience, any education completed...) and why you're interested in TEFL. You'll get more diverse replies on where in the world you might teach without a BA -- what your options are for legal employment. |

Thanks for those valuable comments, you all are so kind.
The reason why I want to come to China is my wife and her family is there. |
