I was wondering if anybody had a recent update on this institution in terms of conditions and lifestyle?
Comments from recent or present teachers would be particularly appreciated.

They pay well, and you could do worse in terms of cities in China. Expect a fair amount of marking and admin, and it will be mostly EAP. If you have a car, comfortable modern digs, speak some Mandarin, and commit there long-term, it could be doable. But the mainland isn't for everyone. |

| Why a car? Is the university in the middle of nowhere, or would it be for general convenience in Ningbo and Sunday afternoon drives? |

| How strict are they about the required qualifications as stated on their website? I have a Masters degree in an unrelated field and a Tesol and more than 7 years teaching experience in Taiwan, South Korea and China from Elementary school level through to 3 different Uni's in China. |

For general convenience, which will become increasingly important the longer you stay. You can get by without one, but it won't be a pleasure. |

My guess is that without a related MA and some EAP experience in China/Asia, it will be a hard sell. |

I figured this so didn't apply this year. Would have had only a year post related MA experience in a similar EAP environment in China, although 6 years experience in total with adults.
I was going to try and just apply during this recent recruitment drive and then continue to apply to every opening they post until they got fed up with receiving my applications and just offered me a position. This method has worked in my favour before 😀. Instead I chose to get a few little extras and some more relevant experience and apply this time next year.
Guess Ningbo could be a shock to the system after a tier 1 city served with excellent public transport. Still unsure I'd buy a car there though, unless it was absolutely essential. |

The UNNC campus facilities are impressive, china2 . If you search on YouTube, you'll find a set of videos produced by UNNC students displaying this campus.
As for public transport, the bus network is extensive and several routes run alongside the campus. Taxis are numerous and fares are low. However,the language barrier is high.
Ningbo's massive train station is connected by HST to many major cities, most notably Shanghai. Services run very frequently.

Nope. The city has a metro (2 lines - planned to be more later). The uni is quite isolated from what I've been told (friends working there and I had a job offer from them when they mentioned the distance). It's quite far from the city centre. |

A trip into the centre of Ningbo by taxi from the UNNC takes between 25 and 45 minutes depending upon traffic conditions, and how you define "the centre". The Laowaitan 'entertainment district' is about that far away from the UNNC campus.
Few teachers drive their own cars here. Many ride around on various forms of 2-wheel transportation, though.
Also, Ningbo Linhae International Airport is worth a mention... As well as the domestic flights, there are direct links to Hong Kong, Macau and Jejudo, South Korea. 19000 Fractional contract, 28000 fulltime - hours are essentially 9-5 and its basically a full time position like back home - free apartment, very easy to bus it into the city, no need for a car. Ningbo is a sterile kinda place tho, no soul. There are better deals available, but a helluva lot worse ones too |
