Does anyone have any knowledge of the MA TEFL courses in Madrid?

I know the University at Alcala de Hernares is affiliated with British Council, which would seem to be a strong recommendation.

The UAM is the more famous university and has an Applied Linguistics course.

It's difficult to get independent information on the quality of these courses. I've been in touch with both and they were helpful but it would be nice to hear an independent view.

Thanks,

Overall, I would try to do an MA at an anglophone university. Degrees from countries where English is not the native language are often looked down upon in the Middle East. If you are not interested in working in the Middle East then it doesn't matter so much.

thanks. Would I be right in saying that their preference for anglophone degrees reflects their prejudices rather than the course quality?

Without searching the specific program you are referring to, I can state that very generally the quality of MA degree courses in ESL/EFL in non-Anglophone countries have a reputation for being lower than those from Anglophone countries.

I am familiar with a couple of such programs in Spain (I mentor MA students) and they do appear to be of lower quality.

Again, haven't researched the specific program you refer to - it may be fine - but I think it's understandable that potential employers may be dubious.

See http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?p=1164984. The OP on that thread completed his MA at a Spanish university. Send him a PM.
