Jerhemiah,
I was in Beijing and I befriended one of Wall Street's students. I went to the school on the insistance of these students who felt I would be a good teacher there.
I am sure you are a good teacher. I just find it ironic to name a place wall street today. I just sent them a three page lesson plan and talked on the phone for a few hours. They make people jump thru fire to get the job . I didn't get the job. Probably it was because I didn't send them a picture with me wearing a silk tie.
Thing about the students was they couldn't enunciate. They talked fast thinking that was how foreigners spoke. I was always telling them to slow down because I didn't know what they were saying.

I have not worked there but know a few that do. I know they have a thing about presentation, so I am told that all FT's have to wear a shirt and tie.

Wall Street is a training centre, just like New Oriental, Oxford Street, Todds and Hampson, and it's important to know the difference between a training centre and a school.

A training centre tends to get 'off the street' business and people who see and ad and call the centre as opposed to a school where there are always a number of students who attend that school.

In a school you either work directly, or get placed there by an agent and that is that. In a training centre you have to help gain the business for the school by giving a short 10 to 15 minute class and introduction, if the student is happy they sign up and you teach them, if not then tough luck.

If you can get a full time position in a training centre then doing demos will not seem as bad as you are being paid for a specific amount of working hours a week.

I work full time at a training centre, I am quite happy with the salary I earn as well as the bonuses and other benefits I receive. I also get paid sick pay and all national holidays paid, as well as two weeks additional holiday paid for travel, if I do want longer than those two weeks I can save my national holidays and use them elsewhere in the year or take the additional time unpaid.

After working for some real cowboy outfits in the past I find the system in the training centres great and have no complaints.

From what I understand it's a language mill, where teachers are overworked and fatigued in a very gloomy, uninspiring environment.

It would be nice if more teachers could chime in and tell us how it works for them.

A 7 year old thread reborn from a first time poster.

Are there not newer WSE threads?

I don't think much has changed there in the last seven years, including the salary. Wink

Is WSE still run on a franchise model?
If so, individual schools will vary in quality in direct proportion to the rapacity of the owner.
