There is nothing good about Saudi Arabia, except for the money and readily available Arab and Indian food. Culture, no way. Getting good money is getting more and more difficult to secure in Saudi Arabia. |

Nothing ? Try a visit to the old souk in the Balad in Jeddah. Fresh fish straight out of the Red Sea in one of the fish restaurants in North Jeddah. Camping in the desert. Immerse yourself in the beauty of Arabic Grammar.
Rejoice in the simple pleasures of life ! |

Camping in the desert was indeed an unexpected highlight of the trip. Vast expanses of desert, observing just how many critters actually call it their home, feeling like you're on Tatooine.
Arabic itself gave me headache after a week. Not helped by the culture of the cadets.
There are things worth seeing and doing in Saudi. Maybe not the hot ticket items that would be the envy of your friends, but there are tons of little things that I look back fondly on.
The.biggest con is most likely going to be the job itself. Never had I encountered a group more resistant and outright rude. |

That is the price of teaching the military. My experience with university students was the opposite. My students were much easier to work with than their agemates in Western societies. Have you ever tried to teach British or European 19-year-olds ? Teaching aliens from Mars would be easier.

4,000 teachers are leaving the profession in the UK every month! Sorry, I've got nothing really to add except thanks for posting that link and say that's absolutely horrendous. |

My main motivation for going into EFL in 1970 was how ghastly it was to be a teacher in a school in Scotland. 47 years later I am sure it is much worse. KSA does have its good points after all - especially if you can land a cushy job on a PYP at a university. I rest my case. |
