				Hi guys,

I’m a Canadian-born Chinese and I’m interested in applying for a public school or international school teaching position in Shenzhen, Guangzhou or Shanghai.

I’m currently back in Canada but I have BA, TEFT certificate, and 3 years of public school teaching experience in Korea.

I do have a few questions about the job hunting process:

Should I try to do get a job lined up before I arrive or start looking for a teaching job once I’m in China?

I'm just worried that I won't be able to find a decent job once I get there and will end up wasting more money.

When is the best time to apply?

How much will being Asian affect my chances of finding a decent job there?

Lastly, what’s the best site/resources for finding jobs in China? Should I be using a recruiter?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

				1. Job offer

2. Visa

Rinse, repeat.. |

				Non Sequitur has it right.

Don't even think of coming to China until you have the Z work visa in-hand issued to you from your home Chinese consulate.. There are some who have related some strange stories about converting tourist visas on-the-spot with none of the other documentation needed. While the stories may be true, they're probably true only in an alternate universe. |

Ok thanks guys! I thought it might be possible to go there in person and find a job but it seems I need to get a work visa in my home country before arriving.

By the way, if I'm an overseas Chinese, how difficult will it be for me to get a decent teaching job in China? |
