| Maybe you are right, perhaps I am not right for Mexico. But at same time, I might love Mexico and stay there long term. The only way to find out for sure is to give it a shot. |

Dude - take what is useful from this board and leave the rest. Some people just live to beat people down. MR - ifyou have hairs on your tongue, perhaps its because you constantely use it to give people tongue-lashings...
Things I love ...
- the entrepenourial (sp?) spirit of people here
- Mexico City
- that I can date here!
-Sushi Itto ja ja ja
- not having to own a car
- so many natural wonders relatively close
- that my Spanish has improved almost infinitely
Things I miss
- driving (I know, a contradiction)
- good Chinese food (at least in Toluca where I live)
- customer service
- knowing exactly what I am doing all of the time ja ja ja |

| Actually, Thelma, some people live--and walk their talk--hoping to make a few people conscious. Those people usually have better luck with students--as their minds are still open, unlike the majority of folks on these virtual reality sites whose minds snapped shut like briefcases a long time ago.... |

The majority of folks who post/read these threads may have perspectives that differ from yours, but that doesn't mean that their minds are closed. I've found that the majority of people are OPEN to differing points of view. They may not agree with them, but they listen. You, on the other hand, are a bigot and, as a result, have no patience for anyone who disagrees with you.
That said, l'd like to say that what I LOVE about Mexico is....
a)relatively inexpensive fruit and veggies
b)the language
c)the cultures
d)natural wonders
I could go on and on...
The things I dislike are...
the heat and humidity
classism/racism (but this can be found anywhere). |

| Nice try, but no cigar. If you hadn't called me a bigot, you might have had a chance of persuading me that you have an open mind.... |

| As you've mentioned before, Moonraven, you are paid to know things so I presume that you know the definition of the word bigot. You, like everyone else, express yourself on this forum. What I object to isn't what you say, it's HOW you say it. You are often intolerant of others' opinions and tend to be condescending or blatantly rude. |

| Dude, 12 plus years intensely lived is a lot to put down in balance sheet format. I have never regretted my decision to come to Mexico. It was probably the best one I have ever made. If you are genuinely interested, try reading some of my previous posts.... |

| I think people have gone WAY off subjet here. I'd like to see more pros and cons. Pros and cons vary according to people's opinions, let's stick to that idea ladies and gentlemen... |

| I think I have said this before on other threads, but I will say it again: IF you have a passionate reason to be here, to be part of a community and pull your weight in this country, there are no cons. If you are thinking about coming here to be an ESL parasite because you don't know what to do with your life, you should not consider coming here. |

Be a parasite? Don't know what to do with your life? I think that anyone who has the guts to venture out into another country and open their mind to another country's way of life is broadening one's way of thinking and own future. So many people are just too damned scared to leave their own backyard let alone travel to another country. Those who opt to actually live there instead of play tourist are actually brave people. Some may not stay long, some may stay and change their whole future consequently. As long as a person has the right values when entering such an adventure then there is no harm, no "parasite". Granted, I have seen many foreigners continue to give us a bad name in Mexico, but there is where lies the cultural difference. How can a person know if they are made for living in another country if they don't try it?
I lived in Mexico for a year and a half, barely a drop in a bucket of water, but I feel that I learnt so much while I was there about everyone and everything around me and I learnt so much about myself too. Although I've been back in Canada now for a year, I still dream of Mexico and returning, not in ESL teaching, but in hotelling, my new career choice. A year and a half didn't give me my fill of the people and culture and language at all and I long to jump back into its rich life and embrace both the pros and cons of living in my second home. |
